Rocking Randy, the DJ known as the mixtape pioneer in Trinidad and Tobago passed away last night.

On hearing news of his death, producer Lyndon Livingstone who worked with Randy said "Must say that if Randy didn't appear on the scene, us mixtape men would be years behind. He changed the game with his mixes and made us step up and pay attention to all the new possibilities that technology can offer. I personally worked for him for a while doing remixes and edits under low. Very jolly soul. Trinidad has indeed lost a dj/ mixtape pioneer."

Randy Seetahal who eventually established the Planet Rock Studios in Couva, lived an extremely private life and deliberately kept his real name and photo out of the limelight.

Randy, who started mixing when he was just a teenager with eight track tapes, cassettes and vinyl records, was an outstanding sound engineering students who also taught and worked in various studios in New York.

Very true. Not even first priority came close to him in sampling quality and editing. Rocking randy mixes was clean and precise.

There is more than one 'Dr. Hyde'. When I was in school there was 3 at that time, all part of the same team but kinda did different things including having a different crew. I think all lived in around Morvant at the time but I know one used to live by his mother opposite the fire station...for the life of me I cant remember his name even though i was up there quite regularly :? thats what old age does to you.

Wow, that's a name I have not heard in a long time,, I used to be part of the LKC crew and we used to team up with the Amitaf guys and Davy's Scorpions regularly back then.
BTW Amitaf = Fatima spelled backwards, that's how they got the name
