Digicel Launches its own Smartphone

Digicel will today launch its own Android smartphone in the T&T market. The official launch of the DL600, which features a 3.5-inch display, takes place at Flair Restaurant, Woodbrook. The phone uses the Android Jellybean 4.1 operating system and has a 1Ghz processor. Word from the telecommunications firm is that its sights are “firmly set on ensuring that everyone can benefit from access to superfast internet speeds at affordable prices.”

“This is all about bringing the amazing experience of 4G to as many people as possible,” said Brian Finn, commercial director at Digicel Group. “It’s about accessibility, style and affordability. Ideally suited to the youth market who want to be connected via messaging, social media and other lifestyle and information apps.

“The Digicel Smartphone DL600 is a fun, fully loaded Android smartphone which empowers people to do more, play more, listen more and share more.” The phone will be available in Digicel stores throughout the Caribbean beginning this month.

but the fancy smart phones have some decent level of QC to protect their brand. The generic no-name ones, well not so much.

I think a smart guy should be able to comprehend there's a difference between "where" something is manufactured and "who" is responsible for manufacturing it. My question revolves around the who.

Age old debate that has been debunked numerous times by Nokia FanBoys...MIF vs MIC makes no difference in the overall quality.
Ppl who used to run down and pay a premium for the MIF tag, just to find out sometimes the build was worse than MIC.

Fact is anyone can manufacture their own Android Smartphone. There are Android devices out here for less than 200TT. Waiting to see the quality of this handset. If they launched their own OS however, that'd be very interesting.
