Guardian Newspaper Crash - Gov't Interference ?

Postby bluefete » July 10th, 2013, 10:03 pm

It seems many of the senior management are gone. From Media Sector head to managing Director to Editor (Inglefield, Faria, Raymond) and the ace that the gov't was after - reporter Denyse Renne.

Kamla mussbe smiling.

This will just hasten the end of the PP.

No way will they make it to 2015!!!!

At least we know this will not impact the quality of their journalism; it's already at rock bottom.

In the recent past weeks the Guardian has been putting out superb exposes, Express can even seem to keep up.

All while the Newsday (which I call the gov't facebook page) would not touch anything too critical of the gov't with a 10ft pole. Also, they must maintain their quota of at least 2 front page pics of the PM per week in her best light.

The Trinidad Express has the stories today, not the Guardian.
http://www.trinidadexpress.com/news/GUARDIAN-FIASCO-215012351.html

This is a very dismaying, bordering on terrifying interference of the State on public media.

I feel very uncomfortable now, knowing that this government can easily declare another State of Emergency. The reason: "crime is out of control" and they have to quell unrest among the "criminal elements." When is the next march in POS?

I honestly think now that these people who were voted into public office of this country never even read Chapter 1 of the Constitution of Trinidad and Tobago, nor do they understand or believe in what this Republic stands for.

Clearly this is Patrick Manning fault somehow and the PNM needs to take the blame for not setting a good example for the youths to follow

from the express article:

She said the editors were not saying they were infallible, but a free press requires room to make mistakes and improve the product and quality of journalism.

ah sorry eh but they real sugarcoating incompetence here...how long will they keep making "mistakes"? Not like we've seen any real improvement over the years..

we suffer from is typos, spelling errors and sometimes reporters covering stories that are not within their remit, no different from journalists internationally particularly if you juxtapose that against our size and pool of journalists, larger media organisations hire persons for each specialty and make integrational alliances with other media, here is different we make international/regional alliances but not local, for what our media works with I see them still managing to get the info across

fresh venom in the sacks...

they said that interference into the lead editor's roles, and into their own procedures, created an atmosphere that they can't work well under. so they opted to leave rather than show that the interference is working.
