Food court restaurants closed by health inspectors

Postby Allergic2BunnyEars » August 7th, 2013, 9:48 pm

FILTHY kitchens, improper storage of cooked food and unsanitary conditions resulted in the closure of three food outlets at Gulf City Shopping Complex, La Romaine on Wednesday.

San Fernando Mayor Dr Navi Muradali and a team of public health inspectors visited the fast food establishments at the mall's food court.

Three food outlets - Little Italy, Stews Caribbean Cuisine and Hakka Express - were ordered to shut down while the owners addressed violations. Other establishments were warned to adhere to the public health regulations.

Dr Ingrid Poonkin, principal medical officer, chief public health inspector (PHI) John Ramkhelewan and head of the Food Unit Alexander Ramnath, accompanied Muradali.

Ramnath said the owners were advised to clean their establishments and replace unsanitary utensils.

The Express was told that a cardboard box containing fried chicken was seized along with 300 pounds of uncooked chicken.

Pots used to cook the food were thick with grime and grease.
Muradali advised that food poisoning can lead to severe organ-failure and even death. He said they should report suspicious and questionable food preparation and handling by calling the city’s hotline at 211 or visiting the Public Health Department at City Hall, San Fernando.

Imagine Hakka express only open in gulf like a few months ago and they get close down for health violations already. Kinda making me wonder what does go on in the other one in town.
