shared printer in network issue

Postby st7 » October 7th, 2013, 9:57 am

i tried googling for the specific issue i facing but i can't find anything that help.

there's a network printer connected to an XP machine, and two Windows 7 machines that prints to it. the problem i getting is that the printer needs to be re-added on the Windows 7 machines after every reboot in order to print.

anyone has any idea why this happening and have a solution for this?

thanks

is the printer spooler service being started automatically on the machine? or is it set to manually start? make sure its set to start automatically.

start > run > type services.msc . look for print spooler service

also, is this a corporate or home network u talking about? are any group policies in effect?

go to control panel-Printers and there should be an option to add a printer.

on the Windows 7 machines, a CD was used initially. Afterwards, it was installed automatically.

i downloaded the Windows 7 driver today and installed it, but the same issue occurred.

interesting...

navigate to here:

C:\Windows\system32\spool\printers

delete any files in there and then restart.

if no files are in there or does not allow u to delete, stop the print spooler service (mentioned above) and then try to delete the files.

restart the machine.

A printer with a network card should of been used instead and each of the three computers would of been setup directly to the printer via IP address.

On the other two computers create a simple user account with no admin access with the same username and password as the machine that the printer is connected to.

pick one and tell the person to jump out.

Seems like a permissions thing though

Upgrade the xp machine, I had a similar experience. We never had the problem after all the machines went on win 7. This only happened with the hp printer and all the others worked normally. We never figured out the issues.

Try hosting printer from one of the Win 7 machines.

Give the service a log on account with administrative rights to the local machine. Restart the service and you should be good to go.
