Beetham bandits shoot salesman, try to kidnap girl
By Gyasi Gonzales gyasi.gonzales@trinidadexpress.com

AN electronic equipment salesman was shot yesterday morning while a 15-year-old girl was almost abducted when bandits pounced on a number of motorists along the Beetham Highway following an accident .
The salesman's employer, who spoke on the condition of anonymity yesterday, recalled the story as told to him by his worker.
Besson Street police also confirmed the report.
The shooting victim, Che Jobity, 27, told police that, around 12.30 a.m., he was heading east along the highway in a van loaded with furniture as he was moving from one apartment to another.
He said as he was passing in front the Beetham landfill he saw a man "dart out" in front his vehicle.
He swerved to avoid hitting the man, but lost control of the van, which spun around several times, hitting a car.
Several men from the district ran towards the vehicles, and the salesman said he felt them grabbing at his pockets.
Jobity resisted and he heard one of the men telling another, "Shoot him".
As Jobity got up and ran west along the highway heading towards the Beetham NP gas station one of the bandits shot him. He fell but got back up and continued running but when he got to the gas station he fell again and only then he realised he had been shot.
He was later attended to by some of the gas station employees, who called the police.
Officers from the Besson Street Police Station arrived and took him to the Port of Spain General Hospital.
He was treated for a shattered collar-bone and remained in critical condition up to press time last night.
Unknown to Jobity, the car that he earlier slammed into was also attacked by bandits who attempted to drag a 15-year-old girl into Beetham Gardens but it was the intervention of another motorist that saved her.
As the police arrived, the bandits fled into Beetham Gardens.
Police were still searching for these men up to press time last night.

wondered if driver decided to hit the man instead what would be the reaction?

anyway sure it's the driver's fault, he should have know better than to tempt the small minority from beetham who behaves this way.

Mom needs 31 pints of blood
By NALINEE SEELAL Thursday, November 14 2013

A 37-YEAR-OLD Curepe mother of two remains warded in critical condition at the Intensive Care Unit of the Port-of-Spain General Hospital four days after being involved an in accident along the Beetham Highway.

Doctors at the hospital have told relatives of Michelle Stephens that she suffered multiple bone fractures including a fractured skull and is in dire need of 31 pints of blood to facilitate eight potentially life-saving surgeries one of which is scheduled for today.

Stephens was returning home after dropping a friend off in Port-of-Spain early on Sunday morning when apparently she innocently became caught up in an attempted robbery along the Highway.

According to police, at about 4 am, persons unknown placed debris across the highway, including the wooden spool for TSTT cable and a derelict stove. A Chaguanas businessman who was returning home from a party on a boat cruise in Chaguaramas was at the time driving his vehicle when he was impeded by the debris.

As the businessman stopped his car, persons emerged from the shadows and attempted to rob the businessman. An exchange of gunfire took place between the would be bandits and a security guard who had accompanied the businessman.

The guard was shot and dropped his pistol on the highway. At the same time, Stephens was driving her car and was about to pass the shooting scene when the businessman reversed his car in an attempt to escape, but only managed to hit Stephens car on its broadside causing massive injuries to Stephens.

Police officers who quickly arrived on the scene retrieved the security guard’s pistol. Stephens was rushed to hospital where she received emergency treatment and was warded. Stephens is the mother of a nine-year-old girl and a six-year-old boy. Her relatives are pleading with members of the public to come forward and donate blood by way of the Blood Bank to facilitate her surgeries. Relatives have also asked that people keep Stephens in their prayer.

Every time I pass there I make a conscious decision to run straight thru any beethamite on the highway and don't stop/swerve. Head to police station after.
