WTK : Backyard storage sheds... opinions

Postby jsr » April 14th, 2014, 10:00 am

Looking at an option of a vinyl backyard storage shed like the one below available from Pricesmart

or a metal storage shed like the one below which is made locally

pricesmart one kinda expensive, no?
what'll be the cost to build one as opposed to buying a premade?

That pricesmart one looks like a child's play house. Go with the metal one. Most likely cheaper and more reliable.

Yeah, the vinyl looks kinda playhouse-ish.

Go with which ever one's dimensions, better fit your needs oui OP.

Or, just have one built.

Vinyl will deteriorate fairly quickly when exposed to the sun's UV rays. Check Tracmac for Dexion slotted angle when they have their annual sale day. Dexion is bolted together and you can clad with roofing sheets. You can get the roofing sheets cut to size by Varma in Plaisance Park.

Not so if the manufacturer pre-treated the vinyl with UV-Stabilizers though eh. But it should be fairly easy to find out if that was the case.

With that said, constructing your own shed might still be the best option.

that is easy to build out of c purlins and roofing sheets
a regular aluminum door frame can be screwed to the purlins

So build one and 'rest' it there like you would either of the other two options?

Is a 10 foot cargo container out of the question? I've been exploring this option myself...

if you ever see how men frame up a roof with purlins and screws and a shears you
will see that it is not that difficult if you can use a screwgun and shears and square
