Accident by Movie Towne exit.. anybody have pics?

Postby Pantos » June 25th, 2014, 11:18 pm

Couldn't get a closer look, but it seems like somebody crashed into a crane that was being driven towards the western peninsula. What looked like a rust-colored car real mash up and driver was thrown onto roadway and instantly killed.

EDIT: It would seem that the person was cut out of the car and the body was placed on the roadway. Still unfortunate however. Also, from the lighting and the distance that I was, the car looked reddish- brown, like rust.

Police escort had stop traffic at the lights, apparently the driver of the car did not realise and still came out.

So, if that was indeed the case, why does traffic need to be stopped for this crane to go through a red light? They do this all the time, make people get out of the way for these loads to move around the country all for what reason?

Far safer thing would be for them to just make sure that the roads are clear enough that no vehicles get hit because of how wide/long the cranes are but still obey all the regular traffic signals etc.

What qualifications you need to drive them cranes? I wouldn't mind doing that for a living.

Well this is probably the first time someone has been killed because of the police utilising this dangerous practice. Would hate to be the driver of the crane. Maybe the drivers should tell the police they not down with breaking red lights.

Definitely what a "police escort" for heavy equipment entails should be looked at. This is unnecessarily dangerous, especially at night!

i've always wondered why this takes place...

think about the amount of heavy machinery being moved around the place all the time, all with Police escort..sometime 3 in a car...back and front.....

let the traffic wardens do this...and the Police should be doing actual policing...

What I believe is that these big equipment are hazardous (being that it is heavy, wide, and longer than most vehicles) on the roads, therefore the police would try to get it to its destination asap, and try to bypass traffic etc.

As for the qualification, you gotta have class 7. And a certificate of driving practice on equipment.

I think it's more the police want to get the job over as quick as possible to get back to sleeping in the station.

How could it be safer to have this hazardous equipment breaking traffic lights or having people forced to the side of the road for it to pass in standstill traffic when the equipment or truck transporting it can just stop as everyone else does?

It's not going to fall over or cause the road to collapse. Yeah I hear what you're saying that the police say go ahead and you're following instructions. That doesn't make what the police are telling you to do correct.

*edit* Same goes for when they're transporting explosives. Sure they may only get the cargo cleared at 3PM. Surely it would be much safer to keep the explosives in a secure location until 6pm on the port rather than squeeze through Wrightson road traffic and possibly Beetham traffic at peak traffic times? Every time I see that I just hope that doesn't something happen cause if it does..

Guess that's typical popo behaviour. I've been on some escorts and convoys with the police already, and some of them are stupid as hell and arrogant, some of the sheit I seen them do so irrelevant and cause unnecessary traffic.

.

yuh ever realize police does just put on siren to duck traffic and break traffic light and then take off siren right after.
no way they going to sit in traffic when their cars have the ability to press a magic button and fly through traffic.
