I decided to switch to Digicel because i've been getting problems with my flow connection for some time now and it's a bit of a pain to get a Flow tech on site. I hated that coax connection from the pole to my house as well
Signed up for Digicel via their website on Tuesday, got a call Wednesday and a Digicel rep came to my office today and signed me up in less than 5 mins....paid the installation cost of $175 via linx as well. He told me to expect a call within 48 hours to schedule an installation date (Saturday and Sunday included). not bad at all.
Digicel provides a Wifi router/optical modem pair. You can bridge or cascade the Digicel modem connection to your router depending on the type of hardware that you have, what capabilities you want to use and how you want to use the network.Jinnz wrote:I'm making a request for those with the Knowledge, plz write a proper guide to use your own router and I don't mean just disabling the wifi on Digi's ONT thus making your router an AP , but properly passing the connection thru to use your own router to handle all the other numerous things that mostly all vendors at this point can accomplish that the Digi box can not do.
I Unfortunately have no choice but to switch to Digi from flow and would really like to get this working just as I did with flow (1 click modem mode and no issues!).Bless
Jinnz wrote:Thanks for your input.I tried when Digi first came out at a family members house following different guides found on the web that I pieced together but the page on the ONT was locked down so I did not bother trying as my knowledge is limited as to how it actually supposed to be done
I'm not sure if it's the same Model they have now but it's the one that offered with their Bundle that I'll be getting. This is why I asked if someone who has successfully bridged the Digi ONT please pm me or go brave an write a full guide here cause I'm surely not the only one who just wants dig's box to just pass the signal thru and do nothing else and have your own router do NAT,DHCP,Ports,Schedules etc).Bless
This is the router that I have Synology RT2600

Well let us know how that goes. Seen some people got a Digicel Router that's like what Massy started with that just a ONT to home router. But now Amplia has a Nokia ONT. Really don't know why all these ISP's wanna control even home LAN as well lol.Jinnz wrote:Thanks again but somehow I believe what I'm looking at doing is putting the ONT into bridge mode which I believe is LAN1 on Digi's box and my router doing all the work rather than just adding more ports cause I already have a switch for that.
In any case when they do come for installation I'll see how it goes, but to be honest I don't have much hope as the few people I've talked to just settled for using their own router as an AP which is what I believe cascade does.Bless

on the huawei configure the WAN as a bridge
then hook up your router (should be Gigabit if your Internet is 100Mbps+) to the Modem via the router's WAN port.
Then configure your router's WAN to be PPPoE and put in username and password for your account.
Basically when you do this your router itself gets the WAN ip, performing routing and NAT functions and the Huawei is purely an ONT.
if you were to use a LAN output (example network 192.168.1.x) from the Digi device as the WAN input to your new router (example network 192.168.2.x) the result would be creating a new network that shares the internet connection from the Digi device.
Understood. If you don't have the box in hand it is hard to experiment and even harder to see if it works or not.Jinnz wrote:Thanks, I will post as they suppose to come tomorrow.AFAIK they designate 1 LAN port (LAN1) for internet (supposedly they give you a switch for your hard wired devices), one for TV, 1 for Tele and the other who knows. So based on that I believe what I'm trying to accomplish is to Disable DHCP ,WIFI etc on the Digi box thus making LAN1 somewhat similar to Flow's ''Modem Mode'' and have my router do all the routing, ports, reservation etc for internet uses. I don't think that the TV/TELE ports relies on those things so I don't need to mess with that nor 'control' the Digi box from mine..
I hope this makes more sense since we keep going somewhat in circles maybe due to my insufficient network knowledge.Bless
Anyone ? A little help ????angelus wrote:Question to everyone on here digicel vs amplia which is the better option
