Barbados to host 2014 Race Of Champions!!!

This year’s Race Of Champions will take place at the Bushy Park Circuit in Barbados on December 13-14

The Caribbean venue has seen off a strong field of rivals to win the right to stage the annual end-of-season motor sport event

A host of driving legends from the major forms of motor sport will assemble for ROC 2014 in December to discover who’s the fastest of them all
Some of the cars will then stay on at the Bushy Park Circuit, which will host a range of new and unique ROC driving experiences throughout 2015

The 2014 Race Of Champions will be held at the Bushy Park Circuit in Barbados on December 13-14 after the Caribbean venue saw off a wide range of contenders from all round the world to host the prestigious motor sport event.

The annual end-of-season contest, which has been held for over 25 years, brings together the world’s greatest drivers from motor sport’s major disciplines – including Formula 1, World Rally, Le Mans, MotoGP, Nascar, IndyCar, Touring Cars and the X-Games – and sets them free to battle head-to-head in identical machinery.

In recent years the Race Of Champions has visited the Stade de France in Paris (2004-2006), London’s Wembley Stadium (2007-2008), the ‘Bird’s Nest’ Olympic Stadium in Beijing (2009), Düsseldorf’s ESPRIT arena (2010-2011) and Bangkok’s Rajamangala Stadium (2012).

The public was asked to contribute to the decision on this year’s ROC host via a vote on the Race Of Champions website, Facebook and Twitter. The Bushy Park Circuit was one of the most popular choices – and after final discussions with all the leading contenders, the Barbados venue has now been selected to stage ROC 2014.

ROC organiser Fredrik Johnsson said: “We have been overwhelmed by the response to our Venue Vote over the past few weeks. We received over 14,000 votes for a mix of different stadiums and circuits all over the world – which will join our list of venues under consideration for future ROC events. As for 2014, the Bushy Park Circuit was one of the most popular venues in our vote and we are very excited to be heading to Barbados as we assemble some of the world’s greatest drivers for another festival of motor sport and entertainment.

“Hosting ROC at a circuit marks a break from our last ten years of stadium events but this is a throwback to our long-time home at Gran Canaria, which hosted the Race Of Champions from 1992 to 2003. We will certainly return to stadium events in the future but for 2014 we will take advantage of the available space to build a truly spectacular ROC parallel track at Bushy Park. We now look forward to seeing a packed house for a guaranteed weekend of thrills in December.”

Congrats to Bim.

Meanwhile persons patting themselves on the back and or chest over and event that is not sure to continue . Many racers were missing from the event , a simple search of CMRC round 2 on youtube which posted in that thread showed many cars in that race did not race at Wallerfield.

When you have your own track you can do stuff to generate real income .

Bushy Park | Barbados

Location: Bridgetown

Circuit type: FIA Grade 3

Length: 2.0 km

Additional info:

Footage of the circuit prior to the Apex-designed upgrades is available by clicking here

Apex were invited by Ralph ‘Bizzy’ Williams to attend the season finale of the 2005 Bajan saloon car championship at Bushy Park, an event which attracted 15,000 spectators, nearly 5% of the country’s population. As a result of this visit, Apex were asked to review the circuit’s options to upgrade the track to FIA Category 3 status and in 2010 Apex were commissioned to establish an engineered solution and master plan to upgrade Bushy Park to a 2.0 km FIA Grade 3 circuit, with a commercially sustainable surrounding development. This project is was very much a target for economic regeneration and tourism with the upgrade expected in 2014.

They have longed recognized sport tourism as contributor to the economy . This is just another real step in that direction.

Barbados to host return of Race of Champions

Date: 3 SEPTEMBER 2014
Race of Champions (ROC) organisers have switched from the motorsport event’s stadium-focused hosting concept by awarding the 2014 edition to the Bushy Park Circuit in Barbados.

In recent years the ROC has visited the Stade de France in Paris, London’s Wembley Stadium, the ‘Bird’s Nest’ Olympic Stadium in Beijing, Düsseldorf’s Esprit Arena and Bangkok’s Rajamangala Stadium. However, Bushy Park Circuit, newly renovated this year to become a multi-purpose motorsport facility, has held off competition from a variety of rivals across the world to clinch this year’s event, which will be held on December 13-14.

In July, the ROC shortlisted Bushy Park, along with venues in Brazil, England, France, Germany, Qatar, Sweden and the US as they aimed to return the event to the motorsport calendar in 2014. Amongst the prospective European hosts were the Ricoh Arena in Coventry, England; the Stade de France; the Friends Arena in Stockholm, Sweden and German venues the Commerzbank Arena in Frankfurt and Mercedes-Benz Arena in Stuttgart. The Qatari capital of Doha was also listed as a potential host city, along with the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas and 2014 Fifa World Cup final venue the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Fans were asked to contribute to the decision on this year’s ROC host via a vote on the Race Of Champions website, Facebook and Twitter. Organisers said the Bushy Park Circuit was one of the most popular choices – and after final discussions with all the leading contenders, the Barbados venue was selected to stage ROC 2014.

ROC organiser Fredrik Johnsson said: “We received over 14,000 votes for a mix of different stadiums and circuits all over the world – which will join our list of venues under consideration for future ROC events. Hosting ROC at a circuit marks a break from our last 10 years of stadium events but this is a throwback to our long-time home at Gran Canaria, which hosted the Race Of Champions from 1992 to 2003. We will certainly return to stadium events in the future but for 2014 we will take advantage of the available space to build a truly spectacular ROC parallel track at Bushy Park.”

Bushy Park Circuit executive chairman Mark Maloney added: “This achievement speaks volumes to the credibility of our facility and to our ability to host world class events and also to Barbados as a destination. Motorsport is the number one spectator sport in Barbados, ahead of even cricket and football. Now we look forward to being able to show the world what we have to offer as we continue to showcase what we consider to be the world’s premier boutique motorsports facility in a tropical paradise.”

The Race of Champions will return in December after political unrest in the Thai capital Bangkok led to the 2013 event being cancelled. The Sports Authority of Thailand, along with event organisers, had hoped to rearrange the event but abandoned efforts due to date clashes with the 2014 motorsport calendar and the political situation in Bangkok.

The annual end-of-season contest, which has been held for over 25 years, brings together the world’s greatest drivers from motorsport’s major disciplines – including Formula One, the World Rally Championship, Le Mans, MotoGP, Nascar, IndyCar, touring cars and the X-Games.

may not have much in the pit as they only compete with 3 sets of cars
the real action will be seen from the stands.
The best seats are General A, Clubhouse and VIP

The 20% discount is already included in those prices or does it kick in after starting the purchase process?

Prices seem pretty reasonable. I remember paying close to £200 for weekend gen ad for this year's British GP at Silverstone. I'm happy for Barbados, and the Caribbean as a whole, for finally establishing itself as a Motor racing destination (when you add this to Top Gear Festival) . I just hope T&T could be up there in the near future.
