Bought that where? Shipping/tax costs must have been crazy.

Yeah, Those mining machines made by Chinese companies and at the same time the majority of miners are in china, an arms race.
There are various comparisons where it makes sense to mine or simply buy btc wrt to payback time.
Not any different than an oil company deciding if to drill depending on oil price.

running a mining farm ain't no easy task. You really have to think about what you're getting into. There's cooling, heat dissipation, efficient power distribution, physical security challenges to consider. You'll need to do rewiring of your circuits if you want to run multiple S9's @ home..even for 2+ multi-gpu rigs if your're mining eth or something. If you have access to an industrial facility that could make things a little easier. At least the power in Trini is cheaper compared to elsewhere.

Anyway depending on your goals in some cases buying coin outright may really be the best route.

An effective local crypto exchange can only happen if people want TTD for their crypto. A mining farm(s) is one way to provide coin liquidity to make that possible as the miners will need some TTD to cover local bills/expenses for farm upkeep. Legislation to make that happen in an "above board" way is another thing as one could fall into the category of being a money transmitter without licenses.

That's why sites like localbitcoins and the like exist to try to work around that..but the banks here could eventually close down your account if they keep seeing huge influx of funds coming in from otherwise pleb accounts. So the higher prices on those sites are not just because of price gouging but also to cover that kind of risk, also the risks of just accepting cash in person, and also the cost of enabling a buyer better anonymity by escaping official kyc procedures that official exchanges have.

our local laws as well as the banks allow this trading?

Bitcoin up 11% over last 24hrs to $11177

also something called Peepcoin up 3025% in 24hrs

So a $200 investment yesterday would be worth $6000 today?

Physical gold sellers like APMEX in the states accepting bitcoin now as payment and the premiums real low.

Another way to cash out.

The first thing is to create a new crypto coin nobody has ever heard about. Then you get people to "invest" in the new coin with the promise of healthy returns.

You can use things like wash trading to make the value appear significantly higher.

Once you see people buying in at that higher value, you have won.

the majority of those other coins are essentially fraud schemes.

some are actual competitors to bitcoin in that the technology software behind bitcoin etc is freely available
but is dependent on a large number of participants in a peer to peer network(miners) as well as acceptance
by the public for use as a means of funds transfer, these will likely never gain a foothold

others are basically tokens to buy offering a promise of something
they are being touted like how in the 2000s IPOs offered shares in a company of promise
highly unregulated and again highly fraudulent

and not to forget some are plain old pyramid schemes like Onecoin.

One should ask how many of these coins are in actual use as a payment service method ?

heck, Duane should offer a 3neCoin touted as the next generation T&T electronic currency to be used by all local websites for funds transfer

I registering on just about any exchange I find but they all say due to high traffic...delays in verification blah blah. A chain effect...I wonder when it will end or at least cool down.

People making up coins for just about anything.

same with any commodity or currency, follow the market, arm yourself with valid and timely info, be alert.
Crypto is very very volatile, yesterday Bitcoin was at $11,200, this morning it's at $9200.
