When you're buying sizes >55" it's been noted that Panasonic, Toshiba and Sharp Aquos etc are way more reliable. I've researched and by owning from experience proven this. Samsung, LG, Sony dominate smaller market tvs (32-50"). Above that the brands above last much longer.

I bought a Sharp Aquos 60" last December from Pricesmart after weighing all my options. No complaints so far. Great TV. Great price.....

Bumping this to ask those who bought their tv online, did u use air freight or sea freight? Did u also instruct the shipping company to crate it and did u have the shipment insured?

I did this about a month ago. Brought in my 75 inch from Orlando ( hhgregg ), the shipping company actually crated it for me and yes I insured it etc. TV came in 2 weeks via sea freight and wukkin best so far.

Will never buy a TV locally again. Unless I have money to throw away.

TV cost me like 2500 plus 100 for insurance, 100 for shipping and approx 200 customs and excise.

Works out about 18k TT, selling here anywhere between 24k ( if you lucky ) to 30k ( courts and standards )

Yes they do but check the model number and serial numbers, it's the older versions ( 2013, 2014 etc ).

Plus I not too comfortable buying such a big TV from anyone local. Just a feeling in my gut that they are of substandard quality ( certified repaired, refurbished etc )

Out of 3 purchases on 4 years I had one bad one and was reimbursed 100% plus customs didn't charge me for a third TV, they simply subtracted the old cost from the new one. Imagine how happy I was when I was told " pay ah $300 nah, since you lost out last Xmas with the broken TV ".

I didn't pay any bribe or bring in any liquor or special items to " coax " the officer. .....lol

Bought a Samsung 60" there last year on sale as it was the last 5 of a previous model. Works great. I don't need latest models like some people. Around $8k for 60" was a steal.

First TV was from Best buy, second from Walmart and third was from hhgregg and I used psfreight out of orlando to ship. My brother in law helped checking around between the 3 stores for best price and to compare pic quality etc. I collect my TV at the bonded Warehouse in Freeport too.....convenient

Bumping this thread as I am also looking to purchase a TV hopefully between now and christmas. I will be looking out for black friday deals (if they still exists).
Is it still worthwhile buying a TV online and shipping it here, hear some horror stories with that and with all the extra duties would it still be economical? Unfortunately I aint traveling till probably late next year, so buying it and bringing in it myself is not an option right now.
Would you all just recommend buying down here? I was checking courts online and when i search the model numbers is latin american models, cant even find a decent review.

In the range for a 49-55"

Thanks

Buying smart tvs online

Postby Duane 3NE 2NR » November 19th, 2017, 9:47 am

I brought down a Samsung 58” plasma in 2009 via Best Buy and Larparkan, cleared it at Point Lisas - The thing refuse to die, thought I’d be able to upgrade by now.
Bought a Panasonic 50” LED for the office in PriceSmart Chaguanas Black Friday door buster sale in 2015, got it really cheap, like half price and it still going strong.

People who complain about the TV specs are usually those who didn't get one.

A 60hz TV will make no difference to you 99% of time unless you gaming.

If you're one of those who need the latest and greatest then prepare to pay.

I have 2 Pmart tvs, one a 60 inch, no issues yet. Everyone may not have the same experience however.

Their best deals would be on previous generation tvs. If you inclined to import, Vizio gives great bang for buck value.

What are you skeptical about ?

Is it a size problem ?

willing to accept the donation of your 2009 Tv if you dont want it anymore.... once it fully functional.

my personal guide for buying tvs.

1. must have all the necessary hardware connections - few yrs ago this was an issue as tvs didnt even have two HDMI inputs - now not soo much

3. clarity... can you really tell the difference between 1K 2 K & 4K ??
get a full 1K (1080 p TV and be happy

4. refresh rates - can the human eye really see a contrasting difference between 120Hz 180 Hz 240Hz 280hz??

5 reputable brand and quality and be able for warranty if needed.

lastly the astute would noticed there is no #2.....scroll back up and check....if you missed #2 then refresh rate should be the least of your issues when looking for a tv...
