http://www.ctntworld.com/cnews2/index.p ... um=twitterAs the UNC's nomination process continues this week, there is word that the party's former Political Leader and Founding father, Basdeo Panday, is set to make a comeback on the political scene.
Media reports indicated that Mr. Panday had a nomination form collected on his behalf shortly after noon on Wednesday.
Mr. Panday hinted that if he decides to complete the form and file it, he will be seeking to contest either the Siparia or Couva North constituencies. Ramona Ramdial is the Couva North MP, while Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is Siparia MP.
"People have been calling and demanding that things are so bad that I should come back. So I am giving it some consideration."
Earlier on Wednesday, Acting UNC Chairman Khadijah Ameen told CTV's Good Morning Trinidad and Tobago that the party has invited nominations for all 41 constituencies in Trinidad and Tobago and so far, over 120 persons have collected nomination forms.
"On Monday, we had a heavy flow, we had 67 persons collecting nomination forms on behalf of themselves or someone else. Several incumbents also collected forms. Winston 'Gypsy' Peters collected in person while I was at Rienzi Complex and a number of other sitting MPs have indicated that they will collect. Larry Lalla collected a form yesterday. He has indicated his interest."
Others who collected nomination forms include chauffeur David John, who wants to contest the seat currently held by his boss, Toco/Sangre Grande MP Rupert Griffith, and Chutney singer Ramrajie Prabhoo, who is interested in representing Caroni Central, the seat won by fired Minister Dr. Glenn Ramadharsingh in 2010.
Ms. Ameen said nominations remain open until a closing date for the filing of nomination is announced and only then will screening of candidates commence.
She said the UNC is looking for the best candidates possible for the job and gave details of the 25-page document that the potential candidate must fill out and return.
"The procedure includes submitting personal information, professional information and you are required to have the signature of 36 persons in good financial standing from the constituency that you wish to be nominated."
On the topic of the political future of Caroni Central MP Dr. Glenn Ramdharsingh and Fyzabad MP Chandresh Sharma, both of whom were stripped of their Ministerial portfolios in 2014 pending police investigations for alleged misconduct, Ms. Ameen said she is yet to hear from either person.
