Body of woman in costume found at Queen's Park Savannah

The unidentified body of a woman in costume has been found at the Queen's Park Savannah.

The body was discovered around 10:30 am, lying on its side under a tree.

Reports are that about 9:30am two men were sitting by a bench along the westerly side of the Queen's Park Savannah when something under a tree, situated directly opposite the Queen's Royal College, caught their attention (See follow-up story here: http://bit.ly/1PNVCyZ).

The men walked over to the area, some 100 metres from the roadway and discovered the body of a woman, clad in a colourful three-piece costume, which was primarily yellow, lying under the tree near some rocks.

The woman appeared to be lifeless and had minor lacerations about her body.

The police were notified and a team of officers from the Port of Spain Division and the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, including Sup Jacob, Insp Veronique, and PC Romeo, among several others, visited the scene.

The woman, police said, was Asian, had brownhair, and appeared to be in her early 20s. She appeared to have on a wrist band from the Legacy mas camp.

There was no identification for the woman up to midday.

Homicide officers note that the lacerations on the woman's body were minor, and as such they were unprepared to say that there were "marks of violence" on the deceased.

An autopsy has been ordered to confirm the cause of death, pending identification.

Inquiries are continuing.

Trinidad and Tobago's National Security Minister Edmund Dillon recently announced that this year's Carnival celebrations would be conducted safely.

Acting Commissioner of Police, Stephen Williams was also said to have called Carnival 2016 a "success" from a policing perspective.

She was perhaps being escorted with a person she trusted, who probably took advantage of the situation (ie drunken state, lonely and dimly lit area, etc.) and she refused his advances. A struggle ensued and the end result was murder.

That person comes to Trinidad often and has been for carnival before. This really is a sad turn of events. A number of japanese pan enthusiasts come and they play for silver stars, phase II and others.

Such a small country for this to happen... there MUST be witnesses... people are out all hours during carnival and they found her quite late in the morning... cleaners, cepep, somebody must have seen something.

there was a struggle, she was strangled in a neck lock, got some cuts and bruises in the struggle. died quickly and silently behind a tree.
