I heard some radio announcers express incredulity at those numbers this morning.

How? Did the Government lower the speed limit on the roads?

One braking the keep left except when overtaking and the rest speeding ...

Most people will still braking the speed limit and driving at around 100 KPH
even saw a police vehicle on rivulet moving around 90kph ... so much for getting the law enforcers to follow the law.

Next dumb thing is asked the GMRTT (ambulance) drivers whats their speed limit, they said 80 just like everyone else. They said they never really obey because they have to get the patients to the A&E as quickly as possible but now they do have to follow speed limits or be ticketed. That extra few minutes could save a patient's life ... shouldn't there be a provision to allow ambulance drivers to operate their vehicles at 100 to 110?

whats the speed limit of rivulet road tho?

Supposed to be 50 kph?

Yeah got fed up and just drove normel around 130-140 tonight on my way home ... I figure the Popo's would not have been out after 10. Plus for added safety made sure I was driving behind two cars doing the same speed.

According to the amendment.... Yes

Hey James do you have the amendment to the act
I looked up but all I'm finding is this. (taken from http://www.ttparliament.org/legislations/b2014ho3.pdf)

"4. The Act is amended by inserting after section
62, the following section:
“Prohibition
on devices
designed to
detect speed
measuring
devices
62A.(1) A person shall not –
(a) equip a motor vehicle
with; or
(b) use, buy, possess,
manufacture, sell, or
otherwise distribute,
any device that is designed for
jamming, scrambling,
neutralizing, disabling, or
otherwise interfering with a
speed measuring device used
by a constable to measure the
speed at which a person is
driving a motor vehicle.
(2) A person who contravenes
subsection (1) commits an offence and
is liable on summary conviction to a
fine of ten thousand dollars and
imprisonment for six months.”.

No where on it states that devices which only used for detecting
Excepting in the heading.
The device I was about to purchase is just for detecting
The closest word there which could come into effect is neutralizing - but the detector does not neutralize the laser, it just detects it and informs the driver.

Stall on purchase of 50 speed guns

A $14 million purchase for 50 Lidar speed guns to be used by the Police Service to ticket offenders who go over the speed limit has come to a halt.

Confirmation came from Vehicle Management Corporation of T&T (Vmcott) CEO Ramesh Lakhan yesterday.

He said Vmcott completed its exercise for the tendering of the guns since last August but had been “awaiting guidance from the Ministry of Works and Transport on how to proceed.

Vmcott could not make these decisions on its own with its board of directors. “I wrote to the ministry’s permanent secretary Verna Johnson asking for her review. It is still pending approval,” Lakhan added.

Asked if there has been a stall on the purchase, Lakhan said: “Yes. There has been a stall. No guns were purchased. The final result is that Vmcott is waiting approval for the tendering process for the procurement of these guns.

“The recommendations and evaluations were made. Vmcott’s board approved the tenders committee’s recommendations as to who they would have chosen to go with the tender,” Lakhan said.

Lakhan said in 2014, Cabinet mandated Vmcott to purchase the guns on behalf of the TTPS.

In light of this, when the Traffic and Highway Patrol Branch go out on the roadways to record the speed of drivers they would only use six Lidar guns, which the TTPS had purchased last year.

Yesterday, Works and Transports Minister Fitzgerald Hinds did not respond to a text message, questioning what was delaying the purchase of the guns, when the guns will be purchased and how many guns the TTPS would use to monitor drivers who were exceeding the 80 kmph.

Brent Batson, director of Arrive Alive, confirmed that the Police Service had in its possession six Lidar guns with full accessories.

“The Commissioner of Police only bought six but they could not use it until it was endorsed by the minister (Hinds),” Batson said.

Former transport minister Stephen Cadiz blamed “bureaucracy, red tape and inefficiency of the public service” for the outstanding purchase.

“It is unbelieveable. We went ahead and did everything to purchase it but it just went on and on and on.”

Cadiz, who approached Cabinet to purchase the guns due to the growing number of road fatalities, said when it was decided to purchase, a sub-committee was set up between Vmcott and the Police Service.

“Vmcott’s sole purpose was to do the procurement, with the TTPS doing the selection of the guns. An amendment to the Motor Vehicle Authority Act was passed in both Houses. A budget was approved for it,” Cadiz said.

The budget Cadiz said was $14 million.

He said in 2014, a tender went out by Vmcott to purchase 400 radar guns for the police with six companies expressing an interest.

A source said: “What happened was the tenders that came in did not match the amount of money that was estimated to purchase the 400 radar guns and Vmcott was asked to re-tender for 50 lidar guns which was projected to cost less.”

A second tender went out last August for 50 guns. Six companies bid in the re-tendering process.

Cadiz said the issue the Police Service had with the radar guns, which are normally outfitted in vehicles of police officers, was their inaccuracy in recording speed.

“The radar readings were interrupted by some other signal and people were prosecuted on this. The Lidar, however, was proven to be a far more accurate system which is a hand-held device.”

Cadiz said while he was glad the guns were now being used by the police “something should have been done with the reckless driving.

“What I don’t understand is that there was a budget allocated and we should have been able to buy those 50 units for the TTPS. I am disappointed. It’s sad to see that 47 lives were lost on the nation’s roads and we are still delaying in buying these guns,” he added.

Maybe 120 as an upper limit solely for overtaking, but I agree with 100.

Not even when the station wagon was fresh it ever felt stable past 120 ( i love she still).

http://m.guardian.co.tt/news/2016-05-02 ... cars-today

Police officers can, from their fully air conditioned cars, while driving along the highways determine if motorists are driving above the speed limit and issue the $1,000 tickets.

Unlike popular belief, police officers will not be standing at the side of the road hoping to catch a speedster.

Speaking with the T&T Guardian yesterday, co-ordinator of the Road Safety Project, Brent Batson, said the guns would be placed in police vehicles that would be traversing the highways.

He added that there would be times when the police might utilise the tripod mount which was displayed last Friday but that was not the ideal and would only be used in certain circumstances.

Already there are Highway Patrol cars that travel along the highways, most of them stopping to help stranded motorist.

Batson added that from today the guns would be given to police officers who would be on the highways ensuring that motorists adhered to the 80 km/hr speed limit and on the main roads with a 30 km less stipulated speed.

Following the announcement for the introduction of speed guns, a petition has been generated to increase the speed limit by as much as 40 kilometres an hour.

Don't know how much of a difference in technology between these models and what they are planning on using now but

As much as a 30km difference if the operator moves their hands ?

And our local police say they don't plan to use the tripod often?
