Suppose it was only a matter of time before "F#ck" made it into the Trek vernacular but apart from its "shock value" in this episode couldn't really see the point.

At least when Data said "Oh sh!^" in the Generations movie (which was also shocking at the time) it was thrown in there to show how he was dealing with his new found emotions.

STD is really breaking some new ground. Expecting some soft-core porn next...:|

People probably said the same thing of Star Trek: The Next Generation when it started in 1987 before it became wildly popular. I don't think Discovery will top TNG in ratings tho.

Openly gay i can understand, progressive etc, etc.

F bombs, extreme violence and Klingons eating human flesh? I don't think so.

Would actually be more believable if this were the chronicles of the mirror universe. That's not possible now as it listed Jonathan Archer on a list or greatest captains.

^ well the whole concept of the way Discovery as a ship operates, outside of the directives of Starfleet, black alert etc, it's dark and unorthodox.

Discovery does come across as a bit Section 31. I wonder if they would include Garth of Izar.

Feels too jj trek still.

yup
I know they reaching for a big arc-style story and maybe the kids nowadays like that kinda deal, but I feel like 3 eps in, it's gonna be too much about conspiracies and plot twists than the whole 'humanity reaching the stars' vibe
Kirk had it
Picard had it
Sisko had it
Janeway had it...damn she's one touch woman
Archer really embodied it, the way he and Tucker personified humanity's stumbling first steps....heck even the Browncoats make more sense

I agree fully with mg man. 4 a series that supposed to be 10 yrs b4 the original, the tech is to much. Black alert, spore drive technology, etc none of which has been mentioned in any Other trek to my knowledge.
It feels more like 10 yrs after the original trek.

ST Enterprise felt more like it was set b4 the original series, the way they were afraid to use the transporter, first contact, ship design, etc. Discovery seems lost in its place in the trek universe.

If spore drive was around, then technically voyagers journey wouldn't have existed...

If they had said it is a kelvin time line (jj trek) movie prequel series it would have been better accepted by the hardcore trek fans, since they are separate instead of pushing it out as in the prime time line. Also should've been on cable instead of a pay to watch service because except for at bit more gore & a curse word there is nothing there worth paying for especially in these days of you can get everything free on the internet.

Ep6 really tried to channel episodes of Trekmasses past. It captured maybe 11% of that essence but you could call that series ‘Firefly: Browncoats Reprisal’ and it would fit

As a hardcore Trekkie it's okay, TNG is way better
As a normal scifi fan it's awesome.

Other than that I'm not going to do much analysis and enjoy it, wait and see where it goes but the graphics are amazing!

Communication holograms, replicators and now a Holodeck...the only way this would even begin to make sense is if Discovery is a testbed for ALL new and experimental technologies not just the spore drive. At least that would explain the retarded monologue from the replicator each time it spits out something i.e. it's a work in progress.

And the "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" sequence...steups.

I wasnt liking Orville too much cuz Seth borrowed a lil too much from ST-TNG. I mean really... a robot and a deep voiced Worf-like thing? But then episode 7 came along with full on McFarlane satire. Epic!!!!

Tng did the timeloop better, this one felt forced & corny just to make a relationship between burnham & tyler.Time crystals tho......really?They are really trying to turn star trek into guardians of the galaxy. They are building up the tyler/voq reveal, that's what i'm waiting for.

Don't agree with the headline, but alot of what was said reflects my views on the series... It's a good series, just set in the wrong time...

Spore drives must be inherently flawed. Only way it doesn’t perpetuate into TNG, Voyager timelines.

Also how does one explain the drastic looks of the Klingons?

In DS9 Sloan from section 31 can appear on the station and leave at will until he is trapped in a force field. Also The spore drive looks like the navigator could not be emulated by a computer and because Genetic modifications are banned in starfleet officially it could have been abandoned. Or maybe a spore drive ship can also be disabled by trapping it in a force field.

As for the Klingons I am at a loss maybe universal studios didn’t want to share the costumes an also the universal translator not working on my TV either don’t know what’s up with that either.
