Police investigate possible labour exploitation at Me Asia restaurant



CNC3 - Police are investigating possible cases of exploitation at the Me Asia Cantonese Restuarant in Port-of-Spain.

This follows a raid on the establishment Monday morning.

The following is a statement by the Police Service.

"The Ministry of National Security wishes to advise the media that investigations are currently underway to ascertain labour exploitation, immigration and other breaches at the Me Asia Cantonese Restaurant on Ariapita Avenue, Port of Spain.

This action is the result of a multi-agency exercise led today Monday 19 December 2016 by the Ministry’s Counter Trafficking Unit (CTU), supported by Police Officers of the Port of Spain Police Division, the Inter Agency Task Force (IATF) and Police Traffic Branch, Public Health Inspectors of the Port of Spain City Corporation, and Labour Inspectors from the Labour Inspectorate Division of the Ministry of Labour and Small Enterprise Development.

The CTU is currently interviewing several foreign Asian nationals with respect to possible labour exploitation, which is a trafficking in persons violation under the Trinidad and Tobago Trafficking in Persons Act Ch.12:10.

Other agencies are also conducting interviews on possible public health violations.

The media will be updated in a subsequent release following the conclusion of ongoing investigations."

Me Asia is a big operation, they have Ave, Long circular mall and tragarete rd
avenue location food prices ridiculous though

after they scaled back their public massage/casino operation years ago it became cool for
everybody to say they going me asia for late night food without fear of been seen going in there
