exceeding 1799 cc;
or
(b) a used hybrid
vehicle, with an
engine size not
exceeding 1799 cc,
and which is not
older than four
years from the
year of
manufacture,
which is imported for
private or commercial
use on or after

before 1st January, 2020,
shall be free from motor
vehicles tax.

I want to bring in a Hybrid but getting mixed review. According to the Financial act as of Jan 1 2015 no MVT for hybrid vehicles. The Act says up to 1799cc though. What about cars over that???

I'm guessing it's either cars above that will pay for MVT on each engine, or it's just not allowed at all.

I just want to get confirmation that hybrid cars are free of MVT, but are still subject to 25% & 35% Customs Duty & 15% VAT.

DJQ, its just MVT. You wtill pay VAT like normal but the cost will be significantly lower for a car <1799cc

I don't understand how this can be. Wasn't this already passed and gazetted?

Publication and Commencement
Once Presidential Assent has been obtained, it is the duty of the Clerk of the House to have the Act printed and published in the Trinidad and Tobago Gazette. The Gazette notification shows the Act No., the Short Title and the date of Assent.

You all need to look into this more seriously. Sounds like customs are screwing you guys.

Certain conditions apply - like the government actually approving the law. TOyota would have brought these in and bonded them so only when the law passes them they pay the duties and taxes. If you want it right away you pay more. But still, $310k for a prius?

Forgive me, but I'm not sure that answers my question. Aside from the 4 years or less and less than 1800CC, what other conditions apply?
Does it mean one can import a 2012 hybrid and be exempt from both MVT and VAT??
Would it be 25 or 35% customs duty?

I've been told it's completely tax exempt until 2020.
Yet I haven't been able to verify.
Everyone seems to want to keep this info hush hush.

People keep saying this and I keep asking the same question...

What exactly do you need to maintain in a hybrid that requires a special technician?

Note i said maintain and not repair.

what vehicles are you bringing in
I am interested in the Nissan Xtrail .
I contacted the firm and they will not be bringing in the hybrid model until the third Quarter of this year.
I have limited down my options to Bess motors just waiting on a 4X4 model of my liking
Do you have a web site?
