Assuming you already have a TTconnect ID, there's another couple of steps you need to carry out.
1) You need to physically go to a TTConnect office with that ID number, two forms of your local ID, and any official correspondence from BIR showing your BIR number (can be a recent return, notice of assessment, or actual BIR confirmation).
2) Once you're at TTConnect they will log you into the system and you'll get an email (I got mine within a day) confirming you have been registered for the E-tax system.
3) Follow the instructions on the email to set up your E-tax account
4) Once done, it will direct you to the E-tax site where you can actually start inputting your tax details and income etc. Note that you'll need to have your TD4 summary handy as well as any other documents you're using for tax deductions (such as annuity statement). In most cases you can input the amounts but the site also provides for you to upload a scanned copy of the relevant document if you have it digitally.
5) Once all your data is input it'll advise you on whether you have a refund due or a liability to pay
6) You can do your taxes in retrospect for a couple of years (I think as far back as 2012)
All in all - its not that painful as I was expecting. The only hurdle is having to physically go into a TTConnect office but I went to Chaguanas and was finished in less than 10 minutes.
