Bootleggers busted: Cops seize 677 cases of alcohol

Police busted a possible alcohol smuggling ring after seizing a whopping 677 cases of alcohol during an exercise on Wednesday morning.

According to a report from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), six men were arrested and the cases, a generator and power washer were seized during a joint exercise conducted by officers of the Arouca CID and Customs and Excise Division, in Tacarigua.

Officers were on mobile patrol along St Michael Road, Tacarigua, around 2:30 am on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, observed a group of men offloading a quantity of alcohol from a container and placing them in another vehicle.

The six men were arrested when they could not give a satisfactory account for the origin of the alcohol.

The police, accompanied by Customs officials, later went to Bahrosa Street, Tacarigua, where several apartment buildings were searched and 637 cases of Absolut Vodka, 40 cases of Johnny Walker Scotch Whiskey, a generator and a power washer were found.

Investigators believe the items seized were allegedly imported illegally from Miami.

Investigations are continuing.

title is not only misleading but incorrect.... bootleg would imply counterfeit. the correct term would be parallel traders. nothing illegal about that though. unless imported under false declaration, no license for import and no license to transport.

Thanks, I know what a bootlegger is. However, the first thing that came to mind when I saw "Bootleggers" with relation to cases of alcohol being seized was the popular sports bar of the same name.

Whole thing is very suspicious tbh. If was the US all now we would know who was the customs clerk who cleared the container and for who.. yet in Trinidad.. silence and they hold the people offloading it. :\
