A 21 year old Moruga man trying to avoid a pothole was killed when his car slammed head-on into a truck in Barrackpore on Thursday.

Nadir Salick, of la Ruffin, died at the scene.

Shortly before 1 p.m. Salick was driving a Chevy Sonic along Rochard Douglas Road when in the vicinity of Scale Number Three, he swerved to avoid a hole, police were told.

The driver of a one-tonne truck loaded with LPG cylinders stopped his vehicle when he saw Salick approaching from the opposite direction.

However, Salick seemed to lose control of his vehicle and collided with the truck.

The Ministry of Works and Transport are not even following their own specifications for repairing potholes. One set of poor quality work being done all over the place.

All the pavement markings on the highways and main roads faded out.

Cable barriers not being repaired/replaced in a timely manner (although the Government should go after those people who damage them).

Financiers of the PNM getting contracts who really have no idea about infrastructure construction (which is no different to what happened under the UNC).

The Minister of Works and Transport should go hang his head in shame. He can't even oversee basic infrastructure maintenance. We seem to be stuck with a set of third world mentality politicians whose only goal is to keep us being a third world country.

The cameraman did not show that there is actually hole right next to that one on the opposite side.

If you try to dodge one, you ending up in the next one.
Don't know why they didn't just remove a whole section of the road and leave a gaping impassable space like this.
