As I posted earlier, his identity would be revealed post court appearance. Cyakers keep cyaking on tuner though

A wife of a police officer appeared in court yesterday on 440 charg

Tinisha Gosine-Ramdass was also jointly charged with her husband, Insp Darryl Ramdass, on nine charges in contravention of the Wildlife Act for being in possession of protected birds.

Of the 440 charges laid, the largest number of charges to be laid against someone by the Fraud Squad, 126 were on money laundering offences, 127 on falsifying accounts and 127 on larceny servant in the sum of $2.8 million.

Gosine-Ramdass, of Princes Town, appeared yesterday before Justice of the Peace, Ackbar Khan. She was remanded in custody to reappear before a Princes Town magistrate today.

The charges were laid by Sgt Samuel of the Fraud Squad following an investigation led by Snr Supt Totaram Dookhie.

Ramdass, 46, a detective attached to the Organised Crime, Firearms and Narcotics Bureau was arrested at the Piarco International Airport last Thursday after his office, based at the airport, was searched.

Gosine-Ramdass was subsequently arrested at her south home. They were charged after six days in custody.

Ramdass appeared before Magistrate Nanette Forde-John in the Port-of-Spain Magistrate’s Court charged with being in possession of five macaws, two toucans and two parrots without having relevant permits.

He was allowed to continue on the bail which was granted to him at the police station and ordered to reappear before the Princes Town Magistrate’s Court today. Ramdass has over 22 years service.

Ramdass was charged by detectives from the Fraud Squad shortly after they were served with a writ of habeas corpus requesting them to justify his prolonged detention.

The writ was due to come up for hearing in the Port-of-Spain High Court yesterday but was abandoned after investigators charged Ramdass and released him on bail.

Ramdass was represented by attorney Criston J Williams.

This speaks of zero confidence in the jury system. Can anyone explain why this "negative pre-trial publicity" defence never works and gets thrown out all the time in the US , UK and rest of Commonwealth. Also, can someone please point me to the law that says you cannot identify suspects until they are charged with a crime?

When you realize most public officials don't do their crimes in their own names but that of relatives, friends and proxies

Corruption among public officials should be such an easy crime to detect and process.

For e.g. a certain current high ranking customs official owns a yacht and a lexus that used to belong to a notoriously shady customs broker.

How hard is it to trace a source of funds for those transactions? Whenever public officials are living beyond their means salary wise they should be made accountable for their income.

I know of private institutions where you need to account for explicit and sudden shows of wealth e.g. suddenly moving from a Nissan to a Benz.
Heck when I worked FCB them bishes continuously did background checks on you.

so how this would usually go?

bail and fight up in court for a 10 years?

accounts freeze and assets seize? or they get to enjoy it all while case going on?

This is so funny but standard for our justice system.

Like the comment about the customs man with the yacht and the Lexus...

Whatever happen to the case with the Lambos seized from the used car dealer in Chaguanas?

Notice the last time he was arrested is officers from POS who moved in?

Woman stays in jail on 444 fraud charges

Sascha Wilson

Published:

Friday, August 25, 2017

Despite being granted bail on 444 fraud-related offences and nine wildlife charges, the wife of a police inspector was still behind bars at the Woman Prison in Arouca last night.

Relatives of Tinisha Gopaul-Ramdass spent most of the day yesterday at the Princes Town Magistrates Court trying to get the paper work approved for her bail.

Gopaul-Ramdass was granted bail which has to be approved by a clerk of the peace on fraud and wildlife charges after 8 pm on Wednesday, by First Court Magistrate Indira Misir-Gosine, in the sum of $150,000 and $25,000 respectively.

Misir-Gosine began reading the charges against Gopaul-Ramdass around 1.15 pm and the last charge was read around 8.05 pm. Following this, attorney Herbert Charles then made an application for bail, submitting that Gopaul-Ramdass was never before charged with a criminal offence. He said Gopaul-Ramdass, who was arrested last Thursday, was married to a police officer, employed as an accounts technician and was willing to abide by any bail conditions.

The fraud-related charges, which are the most ever to be laid by the Fraud Squad against one person, was laid following investigations headed by Senior Supt Totaram Dookhie and ASP Kent Ghiysawan.

They included over 100 for money laundering, over 100 for falsifying a document and over 150 for larceny amounting to the sum of $2.8 million. It is alleged that Gosine-Ramdass committed the offences during 2011 and 2014, while she was employed as a clerk at A-Tech Products and Services Ltd in Princes Town.

The charges were laid by Sgt Samuel. She is also jointly charged with her husband, Insp Darryl Ramdass, on the nine charges of being in possession of protected birds. Gosine-Ramdass pleaded not guilty to the wildlife charges. She was also represented by attorneys Mosi James and Shirvani Ramkissoon who held for attorney Criston J Williams. Sgt Aldwin Toussaint prosecuted in the matter.

Ramdass was arrested following a raid of his office at the Organised Crime, Firearms and Narcotics Bureau-based at the Piarco International Airport.

He appeared in the Port-of-Spain Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday charged with being in possession of the five macaws, two toucans and two parrots without having the relevant permits. Ramdass was granted $10,000 bail and the matter transferred to the Princes Town Court for September 4. It is expected that his matter would be adjourned to September 20—the same day of his wife’s matters.
