$3m upgrade for golf course

Golfers practise teeing off at the driving range of the Chaguaramas Golf Course. The Ministry of Planning and Development has been allocated $3 million from the 2017-2018 Budget to uprgade the course.
Despite a forecast of tough times as it justified new tax measures for citizens and the business community in Monday’s Budget, a $3 million upgrade to the Chaguaramas Golf Course is one of the new projects Government has decided to undertake in this fiscal year.

But Planning and Development Minister Camille Robinson-Regis, under whose purview the project falls, has defended the decision to upgrade the nine-hole public golf course, saying the facility has been “languishing” for some time. She said Government’s plan is to refurbish the course and bring it back up to standard, begin a programme there to train youth to play golf and hopefully in the long run utilise the facility for sport tourism. A consultant is also currently looking at the possibility of expanding the course to a 18 holes, she said.

While the golf course is a members’ club facility it is open to the public and currently costs as much as $290 to play a full round of golf, including rental of clubs, balls and a pull cart.

The Chaguaramas Golf Course is the only public golf course in the country, Robinson-Regis said.

“I wish to indicate that the golf course is not free but there is a minimal

Yes but the holes larger than regulation,
The sand traps too deep.
And the turf too tall.

So.if it's public and we using state money..
We should have a real cost benefit analysis to explain the expenditure.

i hope allyuh eyes open and see what going on.... over 400 for ah bottle of insulin for the elderly because of the shortage and these mofos decide to spend 3 mil to upgrade a golf course that only the 1% will benefit.

but then again, the justification is that diabetes is a lifestyle disease

Cost of business if you are trying to become a tourist destination. It's also an Olympic Sport. Secondary schools are going to need to practice somewhere.

290 a day.
That figure will rise because of inflation.

Now many daily salaries are at 300 per day?

U can pay ur bills and taxes, or play 18 holes...

Lmao...

Golf courses would be considered part of the tourism infrastructure. It will bring in more revenue if upgraded and maintained.

Maybe this has something to do with it : http://www.top100golfcourses.com/news-i ... lands-2017

http://www.top100golfcourses.com/golf-c ... and-tobago

Don't let me interrupt the daily rounds of hysterics though. Entertaining to say the least. Carry on...

Was speaking with a senior dr in mt hope yesterday. She said approval was already given to purchase drugs for cdap etc however the ministry said they dont have the money to pay for it. Suppliers not really giving credit either as many are still owed for previous supplies.
