Camille Robinson-Regis Tell Facebook Come !

Postby RedVEVO » November 9th, 2017, 7:40 am

Planning and Development Minister Camille Robinson-Regis is encouraging social networking company Facebook to set up a regional headquarters in Trinidad and Tobago.
Robinson-Regis made the suggestion during the launch of the Facebook Connect Americas Challenge at the Hyatt Regency in Port of Spain, yesterday.

Patos tried that. His intention was to make T&T the "Financial Center" or "Financial Capital" or something so of this region. Dais why he spend all that money on dem buildings in Port of Spain. It buss...buss big time.

Then he say we go become a "Conference Center". That buss too.

Then he lost elections...:|

What are the government doing to make businesses want to come here? We're in the 80s and 90s in the global competitive index and Doing Business indices.

Surprised she didn't encourage fertility clinics to set up shop down here instead :evilbat:

A Global Competitiveness Report stated that difficulty to do business in T&T is caused by: Poor work ethic by the labor force, bureaucracy in the state sector, corruption, crime, and forex regulation. Plus we are falling in the global corruption index. Camille don't know this?

But if you state that, Rowley will say we unpatriotic even though is the truth. Facebook might quicker go Guyana.

Actually i agree with her
any business which want to come should be encouraged. Previous Governments already spent millions in developing the Etech park which is being wasted .

Companies external to Trinidad don't see it favorable to do business here due to the difficulty in accessing forex and lazy workforce mentality. Couple that with excessive traffic leading to loss of productivity and there is no reason to set up business here.

There's more to it than just a lazy workforce & a forex shortage.
The logistics of it & the financial costs involved to get set up don't help either. We make nothing here in the quantity or quality that a major tech or industrial corporation would need or use here, so everything would have to be bought outside & shipped here or moved from their home nation or a base of operations that's nearest to us. Then add the shipping costs, import tarrifs etc.

& even if they were to consider those things a non-issue, there's still the cost of finding a suitable location somewhere to set up shop. Rent ain't cheap in POS, Chaguanas, San'do or Scarborough & that's if the buildings are even suitable for their needs. If not they'd have to buy property here & build their own base of operations, & those prices worse than paying rent. All that expenditure & they not even sure they'd get to reach their break even point.

Opening or expanding a business is a calculated risk, & this place too risky

Who builds stuff like that without concrete guarantees from Tech companies etc....Only stupid third world government. We need to own up to the fact that these people couldn't run a parlour and stop putting them in charge of billions of dollars that they don't have a clue how to manage.

In a country where crime, drugs, murder, retrenchment, shoddy health service and corrupted leagal system shines in all it's glory. Who in their right mind is gonna want to setup business here? Wait... what's that you say..... Bandits of course. Oh and I forgot the Pastor and shoddy preachers who prey on the lost people of this nation how could I forget you.... check how many new churches in Trinidad and Tobago.

IIRC, there is a Director in Massy Group who has an influential position in FaceBook. Perhaps this lady may help make it happen?

Maxine Williams is Facebook's director of diversity. A Trini formerly from tempo or one of them stations. She can assist in connections but its still up to Trinidad to make a compelling business case

Sandals Resorts after 2 years have not invested in Tobago.
BP not building Platforms in Trini.

And Golfy on his knees begging.

Buss deal. Only ole talk.

You really think Maxine can bring FaceBook in Trini ?

These companies are looking for tax havens connections, productive work force etc.

And Gov't then have eliminated ALL major foreign investors with the 35 % Tax.

Carry on . And Dream on.

If my memory serves me right. Before May 24th 2010 one of the general election campaigns was based on ZERO DIRECT FOREIGN INVESTMENT.

Seems like the PNM is doing what they do best again!

The argument of trini work ethic comes from fallacies echoed by the business class. Every country complains about their native workforce.

Are their lazy workers? Yeah. Are there employers who abuse workers? Yeah.

During the 2010 election, there were a few businesses that were not wanting to give their workers the 2 hours off. The amount of skullduggery the businesses in Trinidad are involved in, they should be shame to even talk

^^^

Rowley's Admin as we all know have NO PLAN for Trinidad.
Gov't has no NEW revenue source .. No NEW investments .

Billionaire Mital leave (Loss $$) . Billion $$ BP no Platform contract ($50 M USD Loss)

Dereck Chin already set up Movie Towne in Guyana.
He wanted to invest $1 Billion in T&T with " Streets of the World "

But when Wiggy tell FaceBook to come set up regional headquarters with
NO PLAN .. and closing down 1% tourist business ventures in Chag ..

Well Wiggy word gets around .. TT is a just a joke :D :D
