They pulled it off with 10 men yes. Grit, determination and a never say die attitude. They've proven why they are World Champions... 8-)

Iran News

Thousands of women were allowed inside the Azadi Stadium in Tehran on Wednesday for the first time since the 1979 Islamic Revolution ahead of Iran's game against Spain

Few people were as excited about Friday's match between Iran and Morocco taking place in St. Petersburg as Iranian women.

Banned from entering stadiums in their own country, female Iranian fans were chanting "Iran", dancing and painting their faces as they were approaching Krestovsky Stadium to watch the game together with male fans.

"It's my first time as an Iranian female to be in a stadium, I'm so excited." - one young Iranian woman, Nazanin, said.
One couple came with a banner reading "4127 km to be at the stadium as a family", expressing protest against the ban for Iranian women to attend matches back at home

World Cup upsets pushing Germany, Brazil and Argentina towards the path of death

http://www.marca.com/en/world-cup/2018/ ... b45ce.html

The second round of group stage fixtures is almost over and a picture of the knockout rounds is beginning to develop, with the shocks so far creating a path of death down one side of the draw.

With Germany looking likely to finish second in Group F, they could well face Brazil in the last-16 if the South Americans see out their lead atop Group E.

If, as looks likely, Belgium win Group G, France hold out in Group C, and Uruguay topple Russia in Group A, all three teams would be funnelled down this path, which would also include Argentina and Portugal if they qualify as runners-up.

This would mean France facing Argentina and Uruguay facing Portugal in the last-16, the winners of which will meet in Nizhny Novgorod on July 6, while Belgium would take on Brazil or Germany in the other quarter-final.

Of course, this relies on the various favourites prevailing in their coming matches.

What this also means is a potential 'easier' route being created on the other half of the draw.

Spain seeing out Group B as winners sends them into a last-16 bout with the Group A runners-up and victory in that leads them to Croatia or Denmark, the latter still yet to finalise their qualification.

Also set to arrive on this path are Mexico, Switzerland or Serbia, the winner of Group H, and the Group G runner-up, currently England.

This side of the draw remains very tricky with in-form teams willing to dream of greater things but it is short of big names and La Roja have great incentive to win their group and avoid the path of death.

Calls in Argentina for Messi to retire from the national team

http://www.marca.com/en/world-cup/2018/ ... b4596.html

Lionel Messi failed once again to lift Argentina at the World Cup as they crashed to defeat against Croatia and a respected journalist from the country is among those that feel he should now retire.

Fernando Niembro's opinion is based on the idea that Messi has too much control over the national team, including picking who he wants, while he is unable to deliver like he does for Barcelona."Messi owns the Argentina team," he said."

He is the coach of the Argentina team and what he decided to do is play his friend and this is the result of putting your friends.

A weak team, a team that isn't what it can be, a team without heart."Messi we asked for heart.

You are the best player, when a team fails what you ask of the best player is that you dig deep and you couldn't even do that."

Enough of Mascherano, your friend, enough from Sampaoli and his contradictions, enough of putting pressure, enough of taking control without a plan.

And the truth, once Messi walked away from the Argentina team, and it wouldn't be bad if he thought about it again."
