there a story i once read or heard... is about a father and son who traveling home on their old and faithful donkey
1st village they passed thu the villagers said "why is such a young boy traveling such great distance why doesn't the father let him ride the animal - so it was done
2nd village they passed thru the villagers said "why is the young boy riding the animal -he is young and strong he can walk let his old father ride and he should walk... - father and son switched places.... so it was done
3rd village they passed thru the villagers said "why is the old man riding the animal alone - is he so selfish he is having his son walk home . they should both be riding the donkey.... so it was done
4th village they passed thru the villagers said "why is the old man & son riding the poor old animal
. cant they see the animal is old and its carrying too much weight... they should be carrying the donkey instead.... so it was done.. the animal was tied up and they both carried the animal home.
entering their village...everyone laughed at the man and his son for carrying a donkey.
moral of story... if you try to please everyone... you end up looking like an ass......
(which is essentially our position) we trying to please everyone without thinking for ourselves what is best for us.
