Ten people turn up at police town meeting

Senior Superintendent Deonarine Basdeo was recently installed as the new head of the Police’s Port of Spain Division while Senior Superintendent Floris Hodge-Griffith goes on two months’ vacation leave.

Basdeo was introduced on Wednesday night during a Police Town Meeting held at the St Francis Boy’s College, Circular Road, Belmont.

The meeting was not very well attended by residents but the ten who were there gave the police an earful about errant parking along Belmont’s narrow streets, errant parking in parts of St Ann’s while one man complained that after reporting to the police about the illegal gun hidden on his property the gun’s owner has been pressing him for $50,000 to replace it.

He said that in March last year he found the sub-machine gun in his yard and called the police who retrieved the weapon. He said he was later approached by the man who hid the weapon on his property and was threatened that if he didn’t pay him for the item he would he killed.

“I eh get a good night’s sleep since,” he said.

The man did not give his name but following the meeting, he was questioned.

Among the other issues was a complaint by a Belmont taxi-driver about PH cars working their route.

He said that the issue had been on-going for years as he had already spoken to three mayors and two Ministers of Works and even his Member of Parliament but still nothing.

A taxi driver now told me that a man stabbed a woman to death in the Croisee. He said blood all over the place and the man run through Saddle Rd and escaped. Anybody could verify?

I now seeing where they said she was threatened by him that when he comes out from jail he would kill her. She was afraid of something because I saw her standing in the track to her house peeping before coming out in the road .
