WTK: What are the duties or any charges with ordering glasses online.

A co-worker ordered his glasses online and the cost was < $300 TT.

I thinking about ordering my through this site.
Any one used this and any advice?

Don't see it making any sense to me. I've come to the realization that certain things just shouldn't be bought online.

Glasses are one of them (unless its a well known brand you're familiar with like with sunglasses)

Local is better in my opinion. To be able to try them on, see the fit and also have warranty and maintenance.

Shop around locally, try on different pairs and take note of the brand and size then find and order online. That's what i do for my mom. Usually spend up to $1000 less

Bought countless glasses online, mainly from Zenni. They have quite an accurate fitting feature where you upload a pic of your face with some measurements and you see how the glasses fits. Then they give you to every dimension of the glasses, so if u have a comfortable fitting pair just measure it and compare.
Duties was less than a 100 for sure. I will never buy glasses down here again. I use to be skeptical about the whole fitting thing but I bought a cheap pair and it fitted well, never looked back again

Yeah no duties or tax etc. I always order mine online.

^ I beg to differ. I purchased a pair of glasses in December, and was charged VAT and Duty for the set (more than 700 in taxes). Still came up to just over half of what it would have cost locally though.

**Spectacles / Goggles (Frames / Mounts) - Free

**Spectacles / Goggles (Frames / Mounts) - 12.5% VAT

***Online Purchase Tax - 7%

****Other Charges - fuel, freight, etc...


careful what u buy as you will not have the option of trying it on.
also consider the wait time to have the lenses manufactured locally (Value Optical might be fastest).
you may have to pay to adjust the frame locally even if you buy the lens locally (no warranty if it breaks during adjustment).

Yup. No longer zero rated. I buy from best buy eye glasses and go optic. Excellent service and brands.
