Can't wait for this to finish. Maybe its coincidence maybe its causation but my evenings commute have increased by an average of 20mins since they closed the intersection and moved to the new one with the mobile traffic lights.

It was carded to finish today...pushed to November, hopefully they don't delay again

was because people didn't want to sell their land to Gov't

Incremental progress. Expect various inconveniences until this is done.
I remember the painful days before the GB overpass. But now it's all good :)
This will help manage the chaos on this side.

There was a circulation of the full plan for the removal of all traffic lights on CRH. Any one remember?

I think the plan is to remove all traffic lights from Valpark and Valsayn. They gonna build a walkover by Cipriani College in the upcoming months.

I think the next flyover is at Macoya then Piarco. Plan was to eventually remove all the lights

there shouldn't be a grand flyover for every interchange, there should be service roads that run parallel to the highway that you utilitize, so maybe to cross the intersection at macoya you may have to go down to "Cupere" :) and then back up?

Yes that’s how I understood it, in addition to moving the traffic lights for the interchange, service roads will also connect other junctions removing those lights too

Curepe - Valsyn North and South, UWI
Macoya - Pajea

I not sure about the others up to Piarco though

yes, but don't expect that to be done during this project. It's definitely a long term plan.

The Minister has assured that once the project is complete, delays at the Curepe intersection on morning commutes would decrease from an average of 11 minutes in 2012 to 19 seconds per vehicle in 2040.

Meanwhile, afternoon delays are expected to decrease about 22 minutes per vehicle in 2012 to 19 seconds per vehicle in 2040.

Completion of the interchange project is expected in November.

So in other words, about 2080.

And it will still be celebrated like some kinda big achievement then.

Meanwhile China is supposed to complete the One Belt road by 2049.

It looks like the number of cars on the road is expected to grow to such a degree that the ease in congestion initially provided by this project will be totally erased by 2040. The increase in car use always outpaces the amount of roads that can be built.

They need to stop building more roads, properly maintain the existing assets, and most importantly, provide a safe and efficient mass transit system to indirectly take cars off the road.

But, then again, maintenance works are not as glamorous for the politicians as building new infrastructure.

In early 90s I used to go by relatives who owned a property in Florida about 45min north of west palm beach

Back then the north part of I95 highway was very sparse and they were continuously building new overpasses and clover leafs to the previously straight freeway.

What amazed me was building these overpasses seemed like no big thing, every year there would be a new one built for what ever expanding city required along the way.

In fact the diversion temporary roads would be considered major works by our contractors.

different scale, budget and circumstances, no?
We must always factor in bobol during tendering, awarding, construction, evaluation, and post-project celebration.

The minister's statement was in reference to only the Curepe interchange project completion. It simply means that the traffic delay reduction is expected to remain in effect until 2040.

On a side note: the use of vehicles is expected to increase but the population of Trinidad is also expected to peak in 2025 while the existing population will age and travel the roadways less.Image

Somewhat related:

February 8, 2016
Blue cans, seen sandwiched between layers of concrete, are visible at the Golden Dragon complex, which collapsed in Saturday's magnitude-6.4 earthquake in the southern Taiwanese city of Tainan.

Those cans are blue cooking oil containers, reports Central News Agency; other media outlets call them old paint cans. Structural engineer Tai Yun-fa tells the state-run agency that in structures built before 1999, oil cans were used to fill out pillars and make them look larger. The Golden Dragon apartment building in the city of Tainan was reportedly completed in 1994.
