NOAA Lightning Mapper - see where has lightning

Postby Duane 3NE 2NR » May 21st, 2018, 9:45 pm

NOAA GOES-17 satellite has transmitted its first Geostationary Lightning Mapper (GLM) data. This GLM data in this animation shows storms quickly intensifying and forming into an impressive line across the U.S. Plains on May 9, 2018.

No. The live tracking passenger aircraft is done by the individual aircraft transmitting a signal on their aircraft, airline, location, speed, altitude, origin and destination.

This is a geo-stationary satellite that NASA put into to orbit that can detect each lightning strike on Earth in the area it covers.
