Make sure and go the first couple of days with the kid and spend a couple of mins at least. Dont drop him off and leave.

I remember my first day of primary school like it was yesterday..

Good point...that's why we plan to take as much time off (vacation) from work to assist with that.

As long as people understand that pedophiles are here.

They have landed.

You are 100% responsible for your child's welfare

Do not depend too much on strangers or even family .

I disagree with this. Lingering exacerbates the separation anxiety I find. A quick and decisive drop off on the first day, with significant prep before hand.

Ted is correct :!: :!:

The child will suffer from " separation anxiety " .

You need to reassure the child she/he is in a safe environment .

In terms of food, ask him what he's comfortable with. If it's just a sandwich, cool. He can eat properly in the morning and evening.

Agreed on fruit plus one snack, water and a juice box. The sunshine mixed snacks for 25 work out pretty good. They are small and single portion sized for kids. The orchard 200ml oj is good too.

For fruit I either provide a whole banana or something cut up like pomerac, grapes etc.

Mine is starting primary school as well.

Not too worried as most of her preschool mates will be with her so she'll have some company.

Part of growing up!

Though the latter can be true, in the instance of my very own Daughter starting Primary School in Sept, there's an existing pest at her Preschool who's prospective for the School my Daughter was accepted...
Not very healthy as this child literally gets time out almost everyday, but seemingly hidden due to the parents close involvement with the school...!!!
Not too hard to decipher that she was evicted from some other Preschool...

make sure your child can eat his/her lunch, snacks in a fairly unsupervised manner

be brave enough to ask to use washrooms and be able to use washrooms properly without messing clothes
e.g) in preschool they use elastic type pants for boys, and now the school pants has the button and zip so they are unaccustomed causing accidents

DO NOT---drop your child and say you coming back, and buss out to possibly avoid the crying....that will have a serious emotional effect of abandonment and your child will be worse

let you kid know what is taking place carry the kid when going shopping for uniform, school supplies etc and reinforce he/she has to be dropped off and you have to leave...
let the whole "big school" achievement work to your advantage

label everything you send, your child should be able to identify his/her name and say atleast one parent phone number

Great info here.

How about meals? Any advice on what to pack for a 5yr old who regularly has to be literally spoon-fed?
