Murderer & Rapist Christopher Columbus

For years they taught us that this guy discovered different places in the world. He was to be honored and adored for his efforts. But then the truth came out..... It more sounded like they hid the truth from us.....all those F-ing degrees those teachers in the past obtained was just to keep us in darkness and feed us false education.

I say rip that F-ing statue down and burn all books of that Columbus guy. He is a Major F up in history.

Overall he was a brave man to travel to the unknown new world, unfortunately he crack all the natives backside with a 2x4 when he got here.

Trinidadians are a people by and large very averse to their own history. The more of our history that they tear down because of hurt feelings will only make it seem more binary.

In 5 years we will hear that Columbus was a fan of shooting natives out of ships' cannons. We must know our history for better or worse.

He was at sea , smoking and eat doubles and he got lost .

Hence he found Trinidad .

A lot of history was written by white people when the whole "superior race" thing was never even a question. As the world becomes more educated and equal, historians will have a lot of work to do to discover the histories of the other side of the story.

Yes, the bigger picture about Columbus is now known. But he was the first human to embark on such a voyage of discovery and he should be remembered for that. And then let history books be re-written to accommodate the true story of the cruelty and injustice of post-discovery. Same with the histories of all colonial conquests. We have only been told one side of a story that affected human lives, populations and cultures.

I think we need to be aware of the mistakes that humanity has made because these things tend to repeat itself. And it's not just a matter of white vs. black race. All of human history is like that wrt to conquests. Japan vs. China. India vs. Pakistan. Rome vs. Europe, Tutsi vs. Hutu, etc.

Columbus wasn't as bad as people think. But still kinda bad. But you can't look back at history and use your present day moral compass to judge. Look at how many of you hate on homosexuals. I guarantee you your kids or grand kids will be ashamed you held those views.

Lots of people say the Europeans decimated the Amerindians. The truth is, the Spanish tired to rule through them. Normal warefare, not eradication and sub human treatment. Their concept of race was very different to us now. They thought that the natives looked different because of their diet and environment. Not because they were different people genetically. They thought if a European lived there and ate their diet, that they'd change into a native. They wanted to westernise the natives. Religion influenced their approach a lot. The two view points were either the native Americans were pure and without sin. Or the other was they were Satan's land. Either way, missionaries were needed.

In the end it was disease from the Europeans that killed out most of them. However, if you've been to central and south America you'd say plenty of natives who still live a similar culture and speak the language.

Also, while misguided as Columbus was, he was relatively smart and brave, a very ambitious pioneering person.

Columbus dead over 500 years but Kambon and his side having heartburn about his statue and colonial street names where he should be more concerned about the conditions of his "black brothers" right across the road in East POS and Laventille. How taking down a statue going to improve the life of Afro-trinis especially those in poor communities who suffer with drugs, crime, family breakdown, joblessness and a cycle of welfare? If that not hotting yuh head but Columbus statue is, something wrong.

Ok so you remove the statue, now what?
Rename colonial street names? ok cool now what?
Remove Columbus statue down Cedros too? ok now what?
Beg Government for a handout every Emancipation as we did for the past few decades. ok what else?
Talk about what the white man do we. Ok most of us know that and fedup of that talk every year. What else?
Buy this cd or dvd so you will have african knowledge cause we were kings and queens before the white man take everything from we. Sounds good, what else?
With this knowledge we know now that the white man as the victors passed down a different history through the classrooms, and that is what Columbus represents... we need to take down his statue.

no he wasn't. he was just the first to be documented to have made such a long voyage primarily in the name of discovery.

throughout the histories there have been numerous examples of the trend of advanced peoples venturing out from their place of origin & encountering less advanced peoples in other places, that they then either eradicated or enslaved or marginalized, & like it or not, the story of Columbus is one of them.
