Is this normal? Rust on new Sealots Walk Over

Postby dogg » September 19th, 2018, 11:56 am

The recently installed railings on the incomplete Sealots walkover is beginning to heavily rust!

This poor quality photo I took this morning doesn't really show the severity of the rusting- it goes all along the railings, at least on the southern side. The rust also appears to be very thick in some areas.

There are even visible rust stains on the concrete.

I know nothing of these things- is this normal? Does it still have to be rust-treated?

The rail should have been coated with a rust inhibitor primer before receiving the top coat. That is how all MOW&T specifications are written. So that should not be happening at this point in time.

Should be Two coats because of proximity to the sea.

Or

No coats to get contract to paint.

Not sure. Lets wait for a commission of inquiry a few years later.

Actually, it was worse under the UNC/PP reign.

I don’t doubt that it probably was but I’ve yet to see it...

Take a drive along Sisters Road in Williamsville in the former MOW&T minister's own constituency. The condition of that road occurred within six months from when it was "repaired". A contractor collected a substantial amount of money for that "work".

I could give many more examples if needed.

PNM not too far off the UNC/PP's foolishness.

one of the best examples on nonsense was a "discipline/production/tolerance" mural built on the caroni roundabout by the new licensing office
sometime last year somebody bounced it down
it was built(during pp) with normal clay blocks but vertically and not staggered either lol

Yes, first thought that also came to me. So what we do now is wait until it breaks off and falls on the road on one of those citizens who not using it.

Railing should be good enough for a poster to promote a block party.

I thought these non-corrupt PNM contractors don't engage in shoddy work?
From the time that was welded, it should have been rust-proof coated, and then a suitable marine, or industrial grade paint applied. The thick rust indicates that either substandard steel was used, or the rust has penetrated too deeply now to even paint, or both.
