Nothing new here. About 20yrs ago at Chag gas station had a vehicle with a tank blowout when filling CNG

Was it the actually tank that failed or a connector/hose etc?
Those are carbon fiber tanks which supposed to take real high psi and may need to be tested every few years
As well as have a limited lifespan.

The air tanks which firemen use are similar construction and have 15year lifespan with retest every 5 or something like that,

apparently the people saying there was a leak due to faulty installation and an explosion in the van. so not the tank exploding, but the combustible gas build up inside the vehicle that exploded.

CNG also responsible for diabetes since the particulate matter from emissions when entered into the bloodstream it blocks the beta cells in the pancreas that produce insulin. So we dont need any more of that.

That explosion was caused by an acetylene tank being used for cng, not a genuine cng tank.

I think they need to enforce stricter rules about filling and qualified inspection on CNG vehicles.
A time I see a green band maxi filling up on CNG and it was full of passengers. And how come it doesn't have the smell additive to detect leaks? Aren't they using the international standard for fuels? Is only when somebody dead then the Minister will step in and say let's do that.

The smell additive, mercaptin, is added in.

Once the system is not leaking. U should be able to fill safely.

If the system is leaking, It's unsafe in any circumstance.

No this incident should be investigated and if it is true an improper tank was used the driver should be charged with whatever they can charge them for it should be an offense to fill up with CNG using an improper tank.

This govt has mandated all state companies and anyone using govt funding to buy CNG fitted vehicles.

They had a CNG drive the other day through NGC. Literally giving away the CNG for free with a $120k gas card for big companies and nobody want it.

Word is that they spent hundreds of millions to install CNG infrastructure not realising that it is a dying technology and car manufacturers not making cars that use CNG.

ANSA got the heads up and stock the Honda City. They govt give tax break so it will sell.

On TV6 they said cng tank exploded, but the video shows tank intact under the last row of seats. The sliding door area however was damaged, so im assuming its the fuel tank not cng tank.
Some more pics/video or a reverse angle shot should clear things up if it indeed exploded on the other side.

If gasoline hits $10/l it will become very attractive. Unfortunately not many manufacturers have it available from the factory and the cng tanks take up too much space in a normal car trunk.

Honestly it's just having a diversified fuel supply. It's better to have options than none at all. Obviously hybrid and electric cars will be the more popular option but for those who keeping the IC engines it's not a bad bet esp if fuel prices go up with petrotrin shut down

That CNG tank has very LIMITED range, the smart ones would buy a Hybrid which is exactly what is happening, proving yet again that electric is the future.
