Glycoshell Coolant: Alternatives?

Postby hydroep » January 11th, 2019, 8:12 am

It's for a GA15DE, manual says to use an ethylene glycol based product. Always used Glycoshell concentrate but meh stocks gone and they're not making it anymore.

All sorts of conflicting information online but the main issue is the substitute has to be a zero/low silicate product.

Making a rounds today to investigate alternatives, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Motul Inugel
Meets Japanese Standards JASO M325 and Japanese Standards JIS K2234
Keep in mind when you are mixing, do not use tap water...buy some distilled water instead
Bought it from Double R

I use NP Ultra Radol with no issues. As MG Man indicated, mix the coolant concentrate with distilled water if it is not already premixed.

My issue with Radol is it doesn't specify the chemistry of the coolant, ie IAT, OAT or HOAT...most modern Asian cars require an HOAT chemistry, certain Europeans call for OAT
The Radol spec sheet recommends it for auto and industrial applications....If they had said light auto and commercial I'd ahve said yeah, but industrial? neh...based on that alone I wouldn't trust that stuff in my car

Meen business. If it's the same price as the Castrol/shell/Valvoline/motul etc etc. Branded and easily available, that's what I will buy.

depends on the car, I guess....probably easier to get Asian OEM coolants at a sensible price than euro

Thanks for the input everyone, went with the NISSAN OEM Concentrate and Christie's Battery water, $ 425.00 and $ 25.00 per gallon respectively.

Just to add to the list of alternatives, here are a couple more budget options with silicate free formulations available locally:

Chevron Havoline Xtended life (50/50 premix) - $ 100.00 per gallon - Check's Motor Supplies

Peak Long Life Antifreeze + Coolant Concentrate - $ 50.00 per quart - Budget Motor Supplies

The insides of my radiator must sparkle magnificently. My temperature gauge must sigh in anticipation of the thermostat opening on a morning. The water channels must remain so smooth as to not know the meaning of turbulent flow.

Virtually all production car temp gauges have such a huge buffer that a wide variation in temperature doesn’t even show up

that's why it's important to actually have the specific gravity of yr rad coolant checked every service

This is true, my aftermarket gauge can swing from 80 deg C to 100, and the stock gauge would not have moved at all.

Endorsed. My aftermarket gauge saved me when the dash one didn't budge as yet!

some of the european brands have temp gauges without buffers...Peugeot for example...typically the cars known to go
poof...plenty new cars don't even have a temperature gauge anymore
