BREAKING NEWS: Massive protests happening in Venezuela right now on the 61st anniversary of the overthrowing of the Dictar Perez Jimenez in 1958. Millions of Venezuelans are protesting against Maduro and calling for the head of the National Assembly to be sworn in as interim President according to the constitution.

NA - Maduro was illegally sworn in for a next 6 year. Nat. Assembly (NA) of vzla does not recognize him and declared him an usurper. Inter. Comm. do not recognize him either. The Vzlan constitution states that the president of the NA is to be the interim Pres until fair elections are called."

What does that mean for a country whose PM supports Maduro, I wonder?

Trump Intends to Recognize Guaido as Venezuela’s President, Official Says

President Donald Trump intends to recognize opposition leader Juan Guaido as the president of Venezuela, in the U.S.’s most provocative move yet against the leftist regime of Nicolas Maduro, according to a White House official.

The Trump administration has also prepared to sanction crude oil exports from the country, according to people familiar with the matter, but hasn’t decided whether to take that step.

The U.S. has steadily expanded economic sanctions and denunciations of Maduro since Trump took office, all but urging that Venezuelans overturn their government. Vice President Mike Pence called this week for the Venezuelan people to “make your voices heard.”

“Nicolas Maduro is a dictator with no legitimate claim to power,” Pence said in a video posted Tuesday on social media, a day ahead of nationwide protests called by Guaido to rally an opposition demoralized by the Maduro government’s oppressive tactics and the nation’s shattered economy.

Guaido, 35, is the president of the National Assembly of Venezuela, which Maduro doesn’t recognize. The country’s loyalist Supreme Court has announced that it would depose Guaido and nullify the assembly’s motion declaring Maduro’s rule invalid. Guaido has urged Venezuela’s military and world leaders to recognize him as the rightful head of state.

The U.S. move to recognize Guaido risks a backlash, as Maduro is sure to warn that American “Yankees” are backing a coup against his government. But even pointing to a checkered history of U.S. involvement in Latin American political affairs has worn thin for many Venezuelans and opponents of Maduro throughout the region.

US President Donald Trump has said he recognises Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaidó as interim president.

Tens of thousands of Venezuelans are taking to the streets in protest against President Nicolás Maduro.

Mr Guaidó, who called for the demonstrations, declared himself acting leader in Caracas on Wednesday.

Mr Maduro was sworn in for a second term earlier this month, amid widespread allegations of vote-rigging.

Venezuela has been in economic freefall for a number of years under his leadership.

Hyperinflation and key shortages, including of food, has forced millions out of the country.

Early images from Wednesday's protests showed some demonstrators facing off against National Guard security forces in the capital.

The Organization of American States (OAS) has also recognised Mr Guaidó as leader.

"Our congratulations to @jguaido as acting President of #Venezuela. You have all our recognition to launch the return of democracy to the country," Secretary General Luis Almagro said in a tweet.

USA will never learn. How much is the CIA involved in this matter? Wasn't Vietnam enough for America to learn? Wasn't 9/11 enough? Iraq?

“I believe that if we had and would keep our dirty, bloody, dollar-soaked fingers out of the business of these nations so full of depressed, exploited people, they will arrive at a solution of their own -- and if unfortunately their revolution must be of the violent type because the "haves" refuse to share with the "have-nots" by any peaceful method, at least what they get will be their own, and not the American style, which they don't want and above all don't want crammed down their throats by Americans.”

I agree this reeks of CIA involvement, but this time (for now) it seems like they're doing the right thing. Time will tell, but I can't imagine the opposition being worse than Maduro and company.

It is very baffling that Rowley chose to align with Maduro, in every sense that was our international relations, and I don't see any situation where that benefitted T&T.
