I want to build a Small/Tiny Home but I need some guidance

Postby adriepie0_o » April 16th, 2019, 11:18 pm

I am low income young person and not a professional builder by any means but I want to build and own my home, no matter how small it is, debt free. I designed it already and I am in the process of consulting a draughtsman for the official building plans. Anyway, I need land to build on. Now I am not well off but I am willing to invest the little money I have into a plot of land. The thing is since the house will be no bigger than 500 sft., I only need 1000 sft. of land or less. Where can I buy that small of a plot of land for a reasonable price because I really don't know if it is even available to me. This is my first home so I need some guidance.

Are you willing to post the design you did here?

Where can I get a copy of this?
is it similar to TTBS Small Building Code?

It is the same document, just with the correct title. "Small Building Code" is a misnomer.

It's very unlikely you will get land that size to buy. 1000sqft?

I don't know if you can find other likeminded people, chip in and buy a lot, then subdivide. T&C has limitations on subdivisions?

OP, ah squatting on a piece of land and for the right price, I am willing to sell. Good thing it close to a river, so come rainy season, the structure can get wash away and you would be valid for a HDC.

OP, look at the option of leasing land...there are a couple state programs e.g. land for the landless etc that it doesn't hurt to sign up for. The key is to follow up on your application.

There is a minimum size for a lot where you can build on, and a lot can only have one structure on it

One common financial mistake is rushing to build or buy a home. That said, if you build a home that has limited sales potential, you may end up with a house that you can only give away.

As mentioned above OP, what's your budget to buy land? Also, what about location? Don't be too desperate to buy land and find yourself in a trap. Plenty fraud going on out there with property.
