Car battery dead and locks would not open

Postby fokhan_96 » May 5th, 2019, 3:33 pm

So my car was parked up about 2 weeks now without starting it. Now it seems the battery is dead(actually I'm almost certain the battery is dead). I cannot open the lock with either the key nor the remote. When the key is placed in the key hole it doesn't unlock.
Any recommendations???

Basically what was demonstrated in the video above. Dunno if it will work with your model car.

In order to unlock the doors to release the hood latch, one must raise the vehicle and connect a battery charger or jumper cable to the starter + terminal and to the vehicle chassis to activate the electrical system or charge the battery. One must be very careful not to short the positive lead to ground as this may cause damage, and one must also take care to assure that, when the vehicle is raised, it is safely ad properly supported with safety stands and wheel chocks to assure his/her personal safety. It may just be easier/safer to contact a towing company or roadside assistance (if offered through your auto insurance, this is definitely the best way to go) and have them perform the tasks necessary to assist you in releasing the locks to provide you access to the vehicle.

The manual lock has nothing to do with the power locks. This means that you had a problem before which has nothing to do with the dead battery. Most likely the linkage mechanism is disconnected. What type of vehicle is it? Different strategies for different vehicles.

Jack up the car, remove the lower engine shield use a battery and jumper cables.put the positive jumper cable on the nut that holds the starter lead and the negative on any bolt or metal to ground. Press your alarm remote to open.
You could also pull down the right front fender shield and pull on the cable that goes to the hood lock, it will pop open.

Recently my van wouldn't manually unlock with the factory Toyota key, but would with a copied key. Sprayed it and turned the Toyota key a few times and it works fine now. Dunno if this helps.

Tumblers could stick and cause that ,but In his case he said it was turning. Once it turns it should open, unless the rod is disconnected. I've seen where there is an actuator installed for alarms that causes his problem when there is no power.

Feed a 12v +ve supply to the alternator wire that charges the battery and a ground to the body.... If you have alternator access i.e.

The alternator terminal is high up in the tiida and is blocked by the A\C compressor so you won't reach it from below( the car locked so he can't open the hood) but the starter terminal is accessible from below.

Yeh.. . I guess your suggestion is best option without prying a door open or breaking a glass.

The guys who stole my Creta headlights and fog lights carnival Tuesday didn't have any problems opening the hood. I only glad the wing glass cost $230 by massy.

Reach into the front bumper and feel the bonnet cable, just pull on it. It will open. You will need to loosen the plastic shield below the front.

This might be the best option but not confident to do this myself.

If you want a wing glass I could give you one for free. Break the left side though

I guess we should all periodically test our manual door locks and lube

This is a good point. If you have a remote why would you even bother to use the keyhole though. It's much easier to press a botton.

Yup, sometimes the installation of the actuator makes the manual key turn difficult. But that's with old car. Not sure if the same applies to the tiida.

Can you open the trunk with the key and climb in via the back seat?

Ok so i got thru.
I got someone to get the hood open thru the grill. The guy took about 2 mins . I put a new battery in and the lock works normal with the remote. However when i use the key i can turn the key the lock the car but when i turn to unlock it, remains locked. So yea the lock has a problem. A strange problem.
But it goes to show how you need to check on these things ever so often.
Because why would you use the key to lock/unlock the car when you can just press the botton.
Even if you use the key and open the door the alarm would sound and the car wouldn't start and you would have to use the remote anyhow.
But this situation was just pure coincidence. How often does one battery die to the extent that the electric locks can't open, and it just soo happen the manual locks wasn't working... lol

Tiida also has electric trunk lock. So no go.
