IAAF World Relay Gold For T&T

Postby bluefete » May 12th, 2019, 7:18 pm

Congratulations to the team. In the old days of tuner, this would have been posted a long time ago.

Cedenio came from 3rd place to win. A great finish for T&T

Cedenio guarantees World Relay gold for TT

National record holder Machel Cedenio ran the anchor leg of his life to ensure world champions Trinidad and Tobago won gold in the 4x400m final in a world leading time of 3:00.81 today at the IAAF World Relays in Yokohama, Japan.

Cedenio collected the baton from TT's Asa Guevara in third place, well behind leaders USA and just behind Caribbean neighbours Jamaica. The 23-year-old, however, produced a tremendous late surge to move past Jamaica and somehow catch USA on the finish line for the title.

USA were eventually disqualified for a reported lane infringement but Cedenio would not have known that and used every last ounce of "gas" in the tank to reel in the American, who collapsed on the finish line. Jamaica were promoted to second spot with a time of 3:01.57 and Belgium took third in 3:02.70.

TT's Deon Lendore ran the opening leg and passed to Jereem Richards, who handed the baton to Asa Guevara for the penultimate leg.

I do not think that we understand the magnitude of what Cedenio did on that final leg.

It was absolutely incredible.
