Can someone explain why the local stock market is trending up? Companies' profits will be reduced by 15-50% over the coming quarters, yet people are still buying at prices close to pre-covid... what gives?

prices ranked real bad with the covid panic
so they prob edging up a bit but likely not up to prior levels for a while
persons will be looking at this as opportunity to get in

Some stocks have been strangely resilient like rfhl and CIF.... I think demand is causing these stock prices to hold steady atm.

Witco was never near 55 post-split. Remember also, they had to shut down manufacturing for a couple months, so in addition to bars being closed, export income would have been affected.

NGL and NEL are way too high IMO. Natural Gas prices have been around all time lows for almost a year. And demand for Phoenix park products were affected by covid.
And NEL is now using only dividend income to calculate earnings. A good portion of their dividend income comes from said NGL. It might be a bleak year for them.

Jamaican stocks are trading at much lower prices in JAMAICA! Tourism and remittances are Jamaica's lifeline. Both are substantially down.

I believe small traders are buying up shares believing they are cheap. I think most are overpriced. We'll see in the coming months.

NEL under more pressure.

Tringen announced on Friday that it would “temporarily” stop production of ammonia at its Tringen 1 plant from Tuesday “due to current market conditions and to advance planned maintenance work.”

Tringen is a joint venture between Yara International, a Norwegian chemical company, which owns 49 per cent, and NEL, the investment holding company for several state assets, which owns 51 per cent of the ammonia producer.

Poor site design. Only equities that have activity for that day seem to be highlighted. I cannot figure out how to see the other stocks as I could in the old site.

Also, the pop-ups are irritating AF. It should only be shown once a day for a given IP address or use some other metric.

Strong balance sheet.
Also is a component of many indices, therefore index funds and etfs buy it.

When sentiment turns the stock will do well.

At the money Sept 2022 calls are about 35.

So one can pick up great exposure in an aggressive position on blue chip stocks.

Microsoft is an excellent stock but there are better options available. The US market performed like a serious bull today it’s unbelievable.

Sept 2022 Calls at 135 bidding 86, stock is at 215.

But won't they just increase prices to pass on the increase?

Historically taxation’s increased cost is considered a negative for cigarette use...

Maybe they expect a hit to volumes.

Maybe it’s gortt vocalization on the vice business..

Maybe people rebalancing portfolios and taking profits.

A significant portion of WCO's income comes from exports. Results next week we'll see how that goes.
