The Ministry of Education is on the receiving end of some harsh criticism today after mistaking Congress of the People (COP) political leader Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan for the late Dr Linda Baboolal.
Baboolal, T&T's first female Senate President and MP, passed away this morning from pneumonia.
Seepersad-Bachan, on the olther hand, is alive and well.
The Ministry posted a condolence message to Baboolal's family on social media. However, the accompanying image was that of Seepersad-Bachan.
Commenters described the error as "shameful" and "embarrassing".
"I don't know which is worse, that somebody made an error like this, or that it is the Ministry of EDUCATION," one person stressed.
Another commenter said the error was insulting to Baboolal's family.
The Ministry later updated the image and apologised for the mistake.
"The Ministry of Education wishes to apologise for the inadvertent use of the image of Mrs Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan in a previous post. The post has since been corrected and the appropriate image attached," the Ministry stated.
The Ministry also hailed Baboolal's contributions to Trinidad and Tobago.
"An exemplar to women that anything is possible through hard work, having managed both a career in medicine and subsequently being appointed as the first female Senate President, Dr Baboolal leaves a legacy of commitment to serve in various capacities; to her family, her patients and, to Trinidad and Tobago."
Minister of Education Anthony Garcia also expressed sadness at Baboolal's passing.
"The contribution of Dr Baboolal to Trinidad and Tobago will never be forgotten. Her legacy and memory will be one of empowerment, integrity and a fight for change. As we take this time to share stories and memories we must make sure that our young girls especially, are made aware of the achievements of this woman that has paved the way for many more to come," said Garcia.

Even if one person made an error, dem trying to tell people no one vetted the release before sending it out? What does that say about the Ministry's procedures? And if procedures were followed what does that say about the capabilities (and intelligence) of the individuals in those positions?
Just imagine the kinda chupiness that must be going on in Gov't Offices with respect to the economy and national security issues...
