Serious times like these, it requires the hunting and prosecution of the people who create the rumours for whatsapp.
They don't realize how it can bring down an entire country during panic times. At least Trinis too lazy to take action on any issue. Is Friday too.

We should have extra canned items and food for storage of anything happens. Just to be prepared.

The PNM is telling people that the common cold is more dangerous than coronavirus.

Whoever made that doesn't understand what irony is. The last bullet point on the left. How do we know that everything on that propaganda list is real and true?

The only medical bulletins we should be listening to are from 3 sources:
1. WHO
2. CDC
3. Min. of Health

and certainly not a PNM facebook page.

I would ask any tally also include the "number recovered" total. A case (we have 11000+ cases currently) can only resolve two ways: recovery or death.

The current tally is

252 recovered
259 dead
11,374 cases (not yet resolved by either death or recovery)

or, we live in Trinidad and would rather the authorities do something to stop the spread instead of pretending it is not a problem.

that dotishness that Deyalsingh doing with thermometers at the airport will not catch cases in the incubation period. There is a window of 14 days for a case to walk right in before showing symptoms. Once it gets here, SFGH and POSGH cannot do one sht to stop the spread of the disease.

But let we have mass gatherings and invite tens of thousands of visitors from everywhere for Carnival. that is what the authorities want while the rest of us watching news and rightfully scared shtless of an emerging pandemic.

Lol bro relax, carnival is tiny compared to what happens on a normal day in literally hundreds of big cities.

Ever used a subway in rush hour? Carnival as a mass gathering is a joke compared to the number of people you'll interact with and be closer to in a subway.

Y'all need to take a chill pill and enjoy carnival.

And FYI my ticket back is non refundable so I coming either way, if I get Corona but didn't show symptoms and Carnival cancelled bet your ass I will unintentionally infect far more people in casual limes over those 9 days compared to people I'd infect in fetes and on the road

yuh hadda remember who owns the mediacal supply places that will jack up the price of the mask once it reach. yuh cant get a good mask to buy locally cause they probably keeping them back till d virus reach den tripple the price on we mc. everybody banning flight to their country to prevent and we here rather ban glass bottles to have a safe carnival than preventing the "horse" from bolting. once it reach here NO tourist coming here again for a while so the hotels go be empty. cancel the carnival and say we in the long run.

@screwbash
I wouldn't worry about availability and pricing for medical masks. Even for the good quality double layered ones, generally speaking dem ting real cheap, especially if buying wholesale, which is actually the best way to buy them. Because they are not meant for long term reuse for days upon days. Ideally you would want to use about one mask per day while you out, or a few while at home if dealing with infected people in the household. Reason for multiple masks being used at home, is because people will take off the mask while home at not in the same room as an infected person, but you can't be 100% sure that when you do that the inside of the mask isn't going to become contaminated.

Just dome information on the mortality rate and binomial distribution.

Binomial distribution calculates the probability given the chance and number of successes.
Example: Rolling a standard 6 sided die (plural is dice) has the probability of picking a number (say, 4) and rolling it of 16.7% (or 1/6). Picking that number, rolling the die twice and having that number come up both times is a 2.8% chance, or having it come up once on either roll a 27.8% chance.

So far nobody has died outside Mainland China with 153 cases. Given the 2% mortality rate (think of it like a 50-sided die with 1 marked death and 49 life that is rolled once for each case), the chance that none of the 153 cases outside Mainland China would result in death is 4.5%. Certainly a possibility, but not likely.

On a similar note, 10 people outside of Hubei province have died out of 4,221 cases not in Hubei province. The chances (cumulative probability) of 10 or fewer people dying with a 2% mortality rate and 4,221 cases is extremely small: 6.40E-23 % or in odds terms less than one in a quintillion chance of happening.

A couple other ways to expand on it: Checking the chance of 20 or fewer deaths with a 2% mortality rate is still 2.38E-15 or about one in a quadrillion chance of happening. Going by the number of cases outside Hubei province from 3 days ago (2,493) to account for time for the virus to cause death , the odds of having 10 or fewer deaths with a 2% mortality is less than 1 in 100 billion, the odds of it being 20 or fewer about 1 in a million.

On the flipside, 10 deaths out of 4,221 would give a fatality rate of 0.23% and 10 out of 2493 about 0.4%.

Long story short, the actual mortality rate when an area is not under a large outbreak that strains the local health centers (and also now that we have a better idea of what supplies are required when there is an outbreak) is going to be well under 2%, I'd even venture it to be well under 1%.

Yes. ONLY the masks rated by the CDC on their website. Beware of knock-offs which will be ineffective. I had made a mistake last year and bought a few N95 masks in the Dollar Store. They are not on the list, and the CDC had a warning up against the Dollar Store masks.

CDC list of approved vendors of NIOSH95 masks: https://www.cdc.gov/niosh/npptl/topics/ ... list1.html

The N95 will protect in certain conditions and it's a one-time use mask. You will have the read the entire page from the FDA linked below to understand the limitations of the NIOSH 95 and higher rated masks and the disclaimers. There is no guarantee to protect against everything, especially if misused.

An N95 respirator is a respiratory protective device designed to achieve a very close facial fit and very efficient filtration of airborne particles.

The ‘N95’ designation means that when subjected to careful testing, the respirator blocks at least 95 percent of very small (0.3 micron) test particles. If properly fitted, the filtration capabilities of N95 respirators exceed those of face masks. However, even a properly fitted N95 respirator does not completely eliminate the risk of illness or death.

N95 respirators are not designed for children or people with facial hair. Because a proper fit cannot be achieved on children and people with facial hair, the N95 respirator may not provide full protection.
https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/per ... espirators

Detailed info from the CDC on the use of approved N95 face masks. Worth a read for the knowledge. https://www.cdc.gov/niosh/topics/hcwcon ... xtuse.html

Postby MaxPower » February 1st, 2020, 3:05 pm

If only allyuh would show the same consideration to the common cold rather than spreading germs carelessly in public.

Dont wait for a “killer” virus to come about and then look to take precautionary measures.

Oh gosh boy allyuh really want ppl to constantly refer to allyuh as stink unhygienic Trinis?

Come on T&T wake up and clean up.
