The low-dose steroid treatment dexamethasone is a major breakthrough in the fight against the deadly virus, UK experts say.
The drug is part of the world's biggest trial testing existing treatments to see if they also work for coronavirus.
It cut the risk of death by a third for patients on ventilators. For those on oxygen, it cut deaths by a fifth.

Yesterday was the highest number of Covid cases reported since the pandemic has started. In a week or so we might see the highest number of deaths on a single day as well. New cases are coming primarily from Brazil, India, USA and Russia. BRIU

people forget what 'flattening the curve' was all about. The goal was to keep the new infection rate under the health care capacity. The lockdown bought enough time to get respirators, beds, test kits, swabs, N95 masks, etc, to be able to handle the healthcare situation competently.
And they have achieved that - you don't see any hospitals in the US getting overwhelmed with cases as happened back in March.

The models used are refined versions of similar models that were developed because of the 1918 flu pandemic. They have only gotten better in the last century.Redman wrote:Funny how that worked out.
