Well i finally got the time to take out my instrument panel. The hardest part was getting the speedo cable out, because it has a clip that has to be pressed from behind the IP, under the dash board.......difficult to get to, but this is what it looks like..........

The only question I have now is if the harness has the wiring for the original tach, it seem that a IP with a tach will fit, so that is my next project.

no luck in finding any, was able to get a lot of basic versions, but no turbo versions. I was told that I may have to get the turbo alternator, to work up the tack also. But if you get through wit anything let me kno.

the AM tach is the same size as the 2 5/8 guage....it's about the same size as other guages.....it doesn't come in the 5" size like the monster tach.

i had mine on top the steerin column....and had a volt meter strapped next to it.

The b13 with the cd17 have a tach, and it is a diesel.

As wagon r said, for a van with no ECU, you can go with the AutoMeter 2888.

The hardest part is to calibrate it. You can check someone with an optical sensor to get an idea of the RPM.

so i got me and Instrument Panel off a K34T..... i got two.. and gas one and a diesel one.. the gas one had the volt meter and oil pressure guages in them... but tach went up to 8K and thats no gud for a diesel... i removed the volt meter from the gass one and put it in the diesel one and cut a hole for it with a Dremel.. wires for the tach were on the original harness and ran to the engine bay.. i just tapped the wire to the signal wire from the alternator and it worked.. speedo cable buss yesterday bought a new one by roach for $60... will change tmr and will take pics of the harnesses with the wire.. and where i tapped it form in the engine bay... its just 1 wire for the signal.. the tach itself gets the 12v positive and negative from in the IP circuitry in the back.. so the signal wire (grey wire with a black strip IIRC) is the only wire u need for the tach to work...

OKay so reviving an old thread here, Just FYI.. most Diesel tachs get a signal from the injector pump.. when i turbod my van the turbo injector pump i got had the sensor on it and the N/A one didnt... and its plug and play... i disconected the signal wire i took from the alternator as it was inaccurate, and when i connect the new pump's harness the tach worked and is still working up to today.. :)

I recently found a device that converted gas tach signals to diesel on amazon. Would upload the link. But it was about the price of a diesel tach tho :-(
