i am trying out the Valvoline Max Life on the 2006 ranger 15W-40, so far it has been a week from the oil change and it is running much quieter than the Total 15W-40 before. Plus little smoke in the morning and idle from cold alot easier. Maybe its the oil or the fact that all the filters have been changed. Its really hard to determine which oil is better

Tried the Amsoil 15W40 to replace the Royal Purple 15W40. No difference in noise (IIRC, the in cabin noise while at 80 kmh was under 55dB with both oils when I checked with my phone).

Does not feel appreciably smoother or quicker. I changed the old oil at 6000 kms just to reduce the comparison effect of old oil/filter vs new. Same OEM filter used both ways.

Edit: After using the oil for 1000 kms, there is a very noticeable increase in accelerating ability, and reduction in engine noise. Definitely will be buying again.

Fellas try the Shaeffer oil,,,,,,,Its worth every cent,,,,,,,,,,,
each time i change my oil,,it around 15K to 18k,,,and there is no need to top up,,,,it dont burn at all....
From my experience,,amsoil, royal purple, shell rimula, delvac,,,etc,,,from the time i reach 8k,,i have to top up my engine every week.............its over 60k now i using this oil and it working great,,,it just a little expensive
What the OEM told me is that on my first change,,,,do it around 7k so that the mock build up from the other oil will be removed..............
My van(bt50) doing 160km and I still get 160-170km/ph, even though the manual say to change the timing belt at 120k............still no smoke, same vibration, same power,,,,as if it was new,,,,,,the only probs,,is that i loaded 45 bags ah cemment on it,,,and i feeel i need to regrease.

Please ignore the above review and DO NOT run your oil to 15k or 18k without proper used oil testing.. That is risky business there, much like not changing a timing belt..
Surely the fact that your pickup can reach an arbitrary speed means that the oil is good right.. Ridiculous
Dont think I "Mock"-ing you either.. I just believe in science and not in sh*t talk

I will say the same thing I usually do.. Buy oil half as expensive and change it twice as often and you are GUARANTEED performance and reliability.. No sort of guesswork involved..

I will not risk my engine to any "here say" - use only Manufactured specified Oil - With Synthetic - Change at 10K, change your oil and fuel filters - use the OEM. Even go a step further and use the non- synthetic when you cross 75K miles on your Odometer.

When you change oil regularly, it will prolong the life of your engine

valvoline has two diesel oils - premium blue (semi synthetic) and premium blue extreme (full synthetic).
Both have the full API latest ratings and are safe to use in our local turbocharged, common rail engines.

Valvoline has been around for a long time and is on par with other quality synthetics like Mobil delvac and amsoil. Its popular with the Cummings and ford powerstroke diesel tuners in the US.

Right now I'm using amsoil for the navara, but if I had to use another oil (besides mobil 1) then I might choose the valvoline blue premium extreme.

One caveat though, and I'm not 100% sure about this - I read somewhere that for turbo charged diesels, its better to use a synthetic oil and stick to one brand or at least don't mix them. Also, its better to use an oil where the body/temp rating are closer together,eg 15w40 is better than 5w40.... For better turbo health (not sure why they said this).

Did u get the premium blue extreme or just premium blue?

Premium blue premium extreme is the full synthetic.

Since I've had my QD32 Frontier I was trying out the different top brand oils available in my country Barbados. I've used Shell Rimula, Valvoline All Fleet Plus(black bottle) & Castrol CRB Turbo. Out of all so far my engine responds best on the Castrol. I'm about to try the Mobil Delvac 1300 Super.

I don't see NP anymore, I never saw much ppl buying it. Castrol oils is the number 1 oil in Barbados. We started to get Pennzoil this year & Mobil Delvac is only available at our local Toyota dealership.

Whatever oil you like.. Pick a brand and just change it at regular intervals...

People will come telling you to use all sort of fancy oils, but its a 1990 Hilux.. Pick something that you can afford to change relatively often
