How often do u do oil changes when using this oil...Nd what's the cost per gallon......

I am on a quest for affordable oil....so far saw the Mobil 1 mineral as an affordable option

I usually pay $130 for a 5L bottle and $35 a quart
I do oil changes every 5000kms, mech said I can go 7k but I'm good with the 5k

Still have a while to go before I use it though... The last of the Fleetforce synth is currently being used

You using this as yet?

Not as yet... Just before Christmas I plan to use it

Is it mineral only or semi-synthetic? I tried checking online. I need to check my bucket label later.
Online for sure it says the R5 and R6 is full synthetic.

it's a mineral based oil

Mineral HD oils usually carry a higher TBN number than a full synthetic

The higher an oil’s total base number (TBN), the better its ability to neutralize contaminants such as combustion by-products and acidic materials. TBN is a measure of (alkaline) additives in the oil. Higher TBN oils are able to neutralize a greater amount of acidic materials, which results in improved protection against corrosive reactions and longer oil life.

TBN levels are targeted for the intended application. For example, gasoline motor oils typically display lower TBN numbers, while diesel oils must manage the high contaminant-loading from soot and sulfur and typically have a higher TBN.

TBN levels decrease as the oil remains in service. When the level reaches a point where it can no longer protect against corrosion, the oil must be changed.

Oils that are formulated specifically for extended drain intervals typically display elevated TBN to ensure proper corrosion protection for the duration of the extended interval.

And with higher TBN there is generally a higher concentration of sulphated Ash... Which is usually bad news for DPFs and EGR as it doesn't burn

So I started using the gulf superfleet supreme.
It pumps the fastest of all the oils I have used so far (well it turns off the oil light on my dashboard the fastest for my first start in the morning). Engine and turbo seem to make a little more noise than before but gets quiet when warmed up.
My dad reports that his van feels more powerful. There is also less oil smoke after the first start in the morning; synthetic and lighter oils (lighter than 15w40) produce more visible smoke (as it is lighter and Burns easier)

One container has oil for three oil changes.... And for 500 dollars...I will live with it

most engine wear occurs at startup... Not much else to do when you start your vehicle on a morning... Wait until that light comes off before I start to move off

Thoughts on changing from Amsoil 15w 40 in common rail diesel to either Mobil 1 synthetic or castrol synthetic? Changing oil every 10000km . Good, Bad, no difference?

Y not...?...sythetic oil suppose to be better quality than mineral oil and should last for even longer than 10000km...even filters are designed to last at least 10000km also...
Doing oil changes at 5000km is a waste of money and time....

Keep in mind our quality of diesel. Id rather pay $700 for oil/filter than have problems later down the road. Anyone in here who bought a poorly maintained diesel vehicle can tell you of their horror stories.

Lab test are very diff from real world environments. Driving in trinidad fall under extreme conditions based on idle time in traffic also the quality of our diesel play a huge factor on oil break down...

You can do oil analysts to determine if you can safety do 10,000km etc

Keep in mind that if the oil filter gets clogged the bypass valve will open for continued flow of oil but there will be no filtering action.
You will never know when this is happening and this is a bit too risky for me.

I keep hearing about the quality of diesel this, the quality of diesel that... What quality/qualities of our diesel makes it good or bad and what does it affect.

I have identified two qualities
High sulfur content - which uses up the TBN content faster than lower sulfur fuels due to combustion blowby
Low cetane number - which causes slower and incomplete combustion.
These things combined cause an increase in soot.

Now for vehicles that have an EGR and a vnt/vgt turbo... This is a problem as soot builds up in the vanes of the turbo and also more soot ends up in the oil due to blowby.(the exhaust being recirculated depletes the TBN as it is acidic)..Which means that the oil has to be changed more frequently.
On the other hand vehicles that don't have these, have lower oil contamination, hence the oil can stay longer before it is severely contaminated and or additives are depleted.

Synthetic oil usually speaks about the quality of the base oil... The additives in the oil are generally the same.

With that info

My oil changes are done at approximately 6000km intervals, synthetic or mineral.
Filter... Purolator

Also with the price of synthetic vs conventional. If I cover 6000km on conventional I will have to do 10000km on Synthetic to break even.(calculated with the cheapest synthetic and approved conventional oil). I will take my chances with more frequent oil changes
