What does this indicate?

That it actually takes a bit longer for the system to build pressure with a lighter oil

Use the cheapest oil that meets the spec.

For engine lubrication I recommend Chevron delo 400le found at pricesmart for $130 a gallon.
For drivetrain, I say valvoline limited slip 80w90

these are the cheapest properly specced oils I have found so far.

I think Double R in Cross Crossing is an agent, I could be wrong. I paid $280 a gallon for my 5W40 Valvoline Premium Blue

@calor
679-0500 is the number I have for the business that I believe are the distributors for Valvoline...I can't remember the name but they are located on the old southern main road. About 5-10 mins heading north from by the heliport in Couva

@shotta and havoc
Still have the Delo, still planning on using it in the future... It's just that the Gulf synthetic was available at a good price
Delo 15w40 in Smartprice has gone up to $130 a US gallon
The Gulf Fleet Force Synth 10w40 works out to $165 a US gallon , which is not that much more for a synthetic. The 20 litre pail was purchased for 860 I think.
It isn't easy to pour from though and the specification is API CF,
which is outdated according to API but is what Toyota (owners manual) recommends.

For almost half the price of what amsoil, shell and Castrol synthetics go for, i can have a synthetic, albeit in a pail.
The gulf appears to pump a bit faster than the Delo and that is all I can really say as I have only run it for 1000km so far.

Did some math... If I extend my drain intervals from 5000km, which I did on Delo, to 6500km on the gulf... It will cost the same...

Running delo in my pickup for the past 3500kms and I recently noticed tht on mornings d oil light takes an extra couple seconds to go out than when I had just changed it
It could either be the oil not flowing as good as when new, the filter is partially blocked or the filter's anti-drainback valve isn't holding oil properly so it runs dry overnight
Either way I'm dropping it this week, where did u get the gulf in pails for sale??

Lange Trinidad... Chaguanas
But after requesting it, it is now available in San Fernando. I think the pail design for gulf is friendlier to a pump of some sort over pouring.

I just walked in... Identified what I wanted... Swiped my credit card... And left with 20 litres of oil in one sealed container....

Regarding the Delo, I had a similar experience in that it takes that much longer for the oil light to come off. This was also noticed when using Total quartz 9000 5w40. The 10w40 appears to be the best viscosity grade for my use and my peace of mind.

To the amsoil user above... More power to you. I can't afford it every oil change so this is my proverbial "bang for the buck oil"

x1000000
Glad to see some ppl not sold to the corporations and influenced by aggressive advertising campaigns
I also look for the "best bang for buck" and this Gulf sounds like it's a better value over the Delo
My only concern wud be if my oil filter cud handle the extended drains since the only filter available locally is the sakura brand

Rub some between your fingers and smell it- if it feels thin and smells burnt it's time to change

I usually stick to manufacturer recommended intervals... However after driving my vehicle for as long as I have I do notice a difference in engine noise and an exhaust smell that approaches unbearable as I get closer to needing to change my oil... There is no real science there but it is a difference I can observe.
I also look at the TBN or mg/KOH (potassium hydroxide) values of the oil I use; With the Gulf synthetic having almost double the TBN of the Delo I know that I can use it longer without having to worry about the oil becoming acidic. I don't really worry about an oil being sheared down out of its initial claimed viscosity as it usually will still be in a range that the vehicle can work with. It also always seems to end up thicker than when it went in meaning that most of the lighter ends have probably evaporated and the dilution from fuel isn't great.
ACEA certifications also help as they do have certifications, unlike API, for extended service interval oils....

I honestly have never done an oil analysis but even so I do not intend for any change interval to be longer than 10000kms.

I use cheap oil and air filters so I expect that while the additives in the oil might be capable of going the distance... The soot and dirt loading might be another problem

I do not know if any truck owners use Delo from pricesmart but it is still one of the cheapest diesel oils available... Delo is also appears to be big deal in the states... There are options...

Read an article about 18wheelers in the US running on Delo with 50-60k mile OCI's
Of course they did oil analysts at the regular intervals, but tht just goes to show hw robust tht Delo is

Got the keg of Gulf synthetic today boi kamakazi, making the switch this weeknd
