Postby civic minded » September 24th, 2011, 8:05 pm

Since coming out the rally i know i need to get my van Underwash.

The place i usually go to is on the Claxton Bay junction -NP service bay. They give you an Engine, Underwash, Body, Clean inside, Grease, Shock Oil, armouroil for 200dollars.

Don't know anywhere else does all that for the price.

chippy was offering me to spray the underside with a coating that will make it impermeable to saltwater and sand etc. - i think it was costing 500 dollars to do.

CHows garage in Sangre Grande does underwash - $80, and shock oil - $40 = $120.

Ok so far we have ;

In south : Chippy's and Rahamat's by the cross.

West we have Chows garage in grande

How about places like Arima, Aranguez or Port of Spain? After a run in some trails on that side, it would be good to know where to head too.

Droppa - give me a exact location of peanut in cunupia - how much they charge.
I wont really consider chocolate cause 3 times i carry my van there to wash and they always wash it half way...I had to keep telling them they miss places.

Where NOT to go in north is the fellas after hilo in St Augustine.
300 for an under/engine/shock oil. - Total halfway work all wound.

There is a gas station opposite Moosai hardware and next to Modern Electrical on the main road in El Dorado.
Guy is open Mon - Sat and does a complete engine/under etc for $200. And thats the muddy price.

There is also the service station behind the Tunapuna Market on the bus route side.
Guy does an Ok job for a fair price, but opens when he feels like it.

For me, the best is in Cumoto. Old guy with a single ramp not too far from the 5 corner intersection along the road that takes you to Grande (Really dont know the name).
$200; Engine/Under/Wash/Vacuum/etc. Very good Work.

I carried the Pajero in a moderately muddy state to Chippy's today by the cross...

I would say that they have the potential to do a very good job on your vehicle for $150 but you have to be on their case to do it...
They did my underbody wash and then all the workers walked off for lunch.. Its only when after 45 more mins waiting I talked to the boss he quarrel with them about starting other vehicles before finishing mine..

Then, they try to tell me that they already did the engine wash (despite everywhere being dry and still having mud on the belts etc).. So I had to get on their case to do that and to clean the wheels properly...

So, 2 hours and change later, the vehicle came out looking superb, but only because I was constantly hovering around it pointing out spots that they missed or that they could have done a much better job on...

Final result, I ended up late for an appointment, i'm $150 poorer, but the vehicle looks cleaner than it has in more than 2 years... They included wiping the interior glass as well in the $150 so compared to some of the gas stations, they definitely run a cleaner operation...

My biggest complaint remains that I had to be on their case and that you can't see your vehicle while they are doing the underbody wash and grease (they close the gate)

I will go back to them though

Nah that's very unprofessional. You should of gone to the cross crossing service station, just a stone throw away.

Civic, I used to go by Rahamuts on the cross regularly but I decided to give chippy a try...

Honestly, for equal pricing, Chippy will do a better job.
What I mean by this is, they just have better facilities and equipment for dealing with your vehicle..
They also do a MUCH better job of washing and cleaning the car after.. It looks like I just took it to get detailed, not underbody washed and engine washed..
Finally, I won't be afraid to let the fellas by Chippy clean the inside and wipe the glass etc because they have clean coveralls and opposed to grease covered barefeet and shortpants as you would find at the gas station..

Also, by chippy I don't have to sit in the hot sun while they do my vehicle (or while I wait for my turn)...
Unfortunately I had a bad experience with the workers, but I am willing to give them a second try sometime to see how they perform then..

I am all for supporting smaller business, but when the prices are the same and the output quality from one is better than the other.. The choice is made

msg karim khan on the forum...does great detailing work

while a lot of people use very harsh chemicals to clean your interior, Karim has proper equipment to get the job done...take a look at some of his work
