I realised that there are alot of Dmax on the road an thought that owners of them should have there own thread like all the other brands do. All positive contributions welcome. If anyone knows how this thread can become a sticky please share. Thanks

I just posted on the forum after being surprised by the new 4x4 Extended Cab Dmax I saw in SSL Pos, after going in to see the dual cab 4X4. Seriously considering the Dmax, since it is best in class for fuel efficiency, looks good outside, and has an updated executive look inside in the LS version. Also, it is cheaper than the Navara, BT-50, Ranger, and Hilux while commanding similar or equal specs.
The rear seats are also comfortable and roomy, far more than the Navara, can't say for the others.
Scheduling a test drive will make all the difference. For someone on a budget my money goes further here.

Anyone knows any solution to the acceleration problem with the new manual d max. There is some sort of annoying delay in the accelerator pedal when a gear is engaged.

i recently bought a older model d-max, maybe like 6 months ago....mileage is now about 120k. i am getting some problems with the gearbox now though, 3rd and reverse not going in.

Any ideas as to what is causing this?

Also i have been hearing that the gearbox oil should be a very light oil, could you tuners share your views, opinions or experiences with these vehicles so that we can prevent these issuses

thanks

Gear box is a synchro mesh type. It uses the engine oil.

so you saying the same 15w-40 i use for the engine would work for the gearbox... and how often would it need to change then?

Yes. Southern sales made a mistake with mine for d first gear box oil change . They called d next day and had to flush d gear box.

dont use engine oil....the manual say to use manual transmission synchromesh fluid with the grade 5w-30

for my first change i used castrol edge synthetic 5w-30 and the gears were a bit noisyy...until i find that amsoil have the manual transmission synchromesh fluid the grade is the same... you can call prolube and ask them which retailer has it or .is like 85$ a quart

cheers

I have a DMax 3L AT 2012 old model. Awesome vehicle for the price.
Now there is a random clunking sound coming from outside. sounds like it was the brakes sticking and then moving, but pulled front& back brakes, and all ok. The sound is mostly on slowing to stop, or accelerating from stop. may have to check links now.
Any advice?
Thanks.

i went and test drove it - it was ok - honestly was expecting more torque since test drove the 3.0 auto 4x4 but it is decent - price is best too for brand new , one thing i really worried about is the resale value when time to sell

I bought mine cause my ranger was costing me money in repairs. had repair the gear box twice ,then the engine went last year, had to buy a foreign used engine. That there was last straw. I have been watching the dmax since 2015. I'ts the cheapest on the market. When i bought mine 4x4 midspec manual it was $177k, i really wanted the fully loaded manual but funds wont allow it. There is a local dmax group on facebook and de men love their max.

I had the 3.0 ranger and the touque from that compared to this was not in comparison. But never the less, you buy this van for value

Had the 2.5 Dmax manual a few years ago. Bought it in 2015. Had no problems whatsoever. Sold it in 2017.

These are excellent, i work on alot of 4x2 high models. very impressive. Very superior vehicle than nav, hilux ect excellent build quality.

they use two fuel filters, 1111 sakura, same thing as hilux and the new sportiero.

note, change the fuel filters at least every 20k. The one at the bottom isa scn but could be done if your a diy guy. need to remove 3 17mm bolts and hose clamp the hose into the filter, because the filter is lower than the fuel tank and gravity feed.
