Spray Liner or Drop in Liner in Truck ?

Which is better the "spray liner" or the "drop in liner" in a pick up truck ?

both has its advantages and disadvantages...

if you use your tray for load, the plastic liner is better. if not, the spray liner would suffice.

and I am speaking from first hand experience - when I had a spray on liner, my tray got a lot of dents from throwing items into the tray. with my newer pick-up and with the use of the plastic liner (I recommend the Max brand over the Aeroklas), there isn't any cracking or anything with the same use.

If is new pick up... use a plastic liner. Best if you can paint the actual tray with a marine grade paint then install the liner.

If is a old van& with an already damaged tray, best to repair the damages and use a paint-on/spray-on liner.

honestly i prefer the spray on, - 1. you get more room ( drop in liners take about 1 inch on the sides and trust me when packing stuff , it makes a difference) 2. you dont need to put a mat to prevent things from sliding. 3 - there is an accumulation of dust and sand under the liner and if you dont clean it regularly it will cause your bed to rust.

Plus the spray on is repairable. You can touch up the damaged or scraped spots and it transitions smoothly into the old liner

No drop in liner for me, have some older TCD vehicles in my company. ALLLLL the tray rotten. all was installed from brand new. Not small thing eh. Some proper chunks.

I used some thick rubber mat on my previous van.

moisture cause the tray to rotten, 99% of the vehicles park outdoors and they hardly carry anything at all.

the frontiers without the drop in liner still fine, old k2700 TBR series vehicles still pretty decent and they are workhorses.

some advice i was given was to use grease before you install the liner, like those buckets of grease, paste it on with your hand to the tray. I cant see it doing any harm. Marine paint too.

I did the marine paint on our old ranger.
But this was because it was a M. Rampersad unit and the tray cover started rotting from the inside. I had to make over all the steel rails etc. at a machine shop.
While the tray cover was out, i did all the preventative rust treatment.

You can buy the spray liner and have any painter apply it.
Or you can check the automan in maraval or westbourne trading in el soccorro or zeibart in sea lots. Some paintshops even stock the spray on liner, they can recommend someone to apply it for you.
